The West Country region
The West Country Region
Cornwall lies on the southwest peninsular of the UK. It has a milder climate than the rest of the country which means it is an excellent place to visit and enjoy.
Cornwall is most famous for it's stunning scenery: from attractive fishing villages to the vibrant, colourful countryside there is always so much to see. It has a strong industrial heritage with engine houses that litter the place as if nature put them there. Ancient celtic stones and crosses also dot the countryside whilst the miles of stunning beaches make it almost impossible to choose a favourite.
There are also numerous attractions to visit with something for everyone. The famous Eden Project is a must for plant lovers and for art enthusiasts there are over 25 galleries in St Ives, inlcuding the popular Tate St Ives.
Cornwall also has it's fair share of excellent restaurants and bars including Jamie Oliver's Fifteen at Watergate Bay and Rick Stein's four restaurants in Padstow to name but a few.
Trevaunance Cove is St Agnes' main beach. A picturesque cove, popular with families and surfers alike - at low tide children will love exploring the rock pools, nooks and caves. Trevaunance was once a smugglers paradise in the past and you can see why, when you look out to sea from the coast - there are numerous caves and hideaways all around.
St Agnes as well as Trevaunance boasts an admirable selection of restaurants, specialising in fish dishes that are often landed from Trevaunance itself. The Driftwood Spars Pub at Trevaunance is a must visit for live music, food and friendly atmosphere. Amongst the eateries and bars there's also a tapas bar/restaurant, cafes and numerous craft studios and galleries to browse through.
This is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a World Heritage site. Home to one of the most photographed sites in Cornwall - Wheal Coates Engine Pump House. Stunning views, great beaches (Porthtowan, Chapel Porth to name but a few) and an ideal spot for visiting St Ives, Newquay, Truro and Padstow.
