The West Country region
The West Country has everything! Stunning beaches, adrenaline sports, gorgeous cliff walking, idyllic fishing villages and magnificent gardens. It's also a foodie's heaven with great restaurants in most popular towns and local produce available in the shops and markets.
History abounds with remains of its industrial past, such as tin mines and steam engines, open for visitors and historic houses.
There are art galleries with exhibitions to suit all tastes. St Ives has a gallery on every corner showing glass, jewellery or paintings to the famous Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden and Tate Gallery.
The land and sea around St Agnes were very important in Cornwall's tin mining industry and remains of engine houses are found in valleys and on the cliffs. It is a World Heritage site for this reason. The little museum in St Agnes has much of local interest on display.
The cliff walks are spectacular and can be reached on foot from the cottage via peaceful Jericho Valley. Country walks, full of wild flowers in spring are also nearby. The beaches are spectacular and a favourite with local surfers as well as beach lovers!
St Agnes is also a hub for local artists and craftspeople and there are many outlets where you can see and buy their products.
The Miners Arms pub in the village serves meals every day. Eating places are plentiful with bars, cafes or pubs by the beaches at Trevaunance Cove, Chapel Porth, Perranporth and Porthtowan. There are take-aways in St Agnes. Eating ice cream made on the premises at Callestick Farm should not be missed!
Bicycles can be hires near Porthtowan and you can spend a great day cycling along the old mineral tramway from Portreath to Devoran and back.
