The West Country / Cornwall region
Portreath is on the North coast of Cornwall, it has a splendid sandy beach set amidst rocks and rockpools excellent for surfing and bathing. There is a harbour that dates back to the 18th century and the village has plenty of local amenities including a supermarket, bakery, restaurants and pubs.
Truro is the city of Cornwall located mid-way between the north and south coasts. The city has a fine selection of shops, restaurants, a museum and a magnificent cathedral, which was built between 1880 and 1910. On Boscawen Street there is a splendid city hall (Hall For Cornwall) built in 1846 that has recently benefited from an extensive interior and remodelling program.
St.Ives with the sun on the water is breathtaking. There is a wonderful Museum, Tate Gallery and a delightful village with beaches, small gift and craft shops surrounding the fishing harbour that helped St.Ives grow to prosperity. A scenic coastal railway trip can be used as a park and ride connects St.Ives with Lelant at Hayle. Hayle is still a working port and some of its piers and jetties date back to the 18th century.
Falmouth is a very popular holiday resort located on the west of Cornwall. There are 4 main beaches, Gyllyngvase, Castle, Swanpool and Maenporth, a perfect arena for sunbathing, swimming and sandcastle building. The bustling town centre contains many of the expected high street names, alongside specialist shops with great maritime charm.
Sheltered from the Atlantic winds and the surfing seas. The Southern coast offers a much calmer part of Cornwall with small towns, fishing villages, harbours and a choice of historical gardens. The spectacular Eden Project (home to a dramatic global garden the size of 30 football pitches) is located at Bodelva near St.Austell and Par.
The St Agnes area
St. Agnes provides old quaint side streets, many picturesque cottages, two surfing beaches and several beautiful areas of National Trust Land. The shingle/sandy beaches of Trevaunance Cove and Chapel Porth are popular where children can swim, play, and fish in the rock pools. Wonderful cliff walks with picturesque views and a swimming pool nestles at the foot of the cliffs naturally fed by seawater. There are small shops, pubs and restaurants - an ideal location to enjoy a relaxing holiday away from all the hustle & bustle. St. Agnes is an uncommercialised village, with the St.Agnes Beacon dominated by the National Trust. The immediate area still features the Old Sea Captains cottages Stippy Stappy and the lost harbours of the Trevaunance Cove. Being 5 miles from the A30, 9 miles from the City of Truro, and 12 miles from Newquay this is a very central place to spend your holiday, enabling you to visit many interesting parts of Cornwall.

This is an outstandingly well appointed holiday let. All of the fixtures and fittings are very comfortable and of an excellent quality. The rooms are spacious and plentiful and even offer the luxury of being able to spend some alone time from the rest of the family if you wish! My only downside to this property is the outside seating area and garden which is not maintained to the same high standard. Also, we were plagued by red ants to the point where we could not sit out as they were all over us. You may think this is not really an issue but I felt that it could have been addressed. Fortunately the weather was such that it was only warm enough to sit out on a couple of days anyway! The balcony where the BBQ and table is was not affected by this. One small issue also is that there is no wi-fi available. However none of these things detracted from the holiday as such and the property itself is stunning. It is also very well located for travelling around cornwall and for some excellent beaches, with plentiful local amenities only a mile or so away in St Agnes. |

This is the second year running that we have visited Porthview and we have already booked for next year - that says everything! For myself, my wife and my family the property is sheer luxury and we feel at home straight away. The property has everything for a very relaxing holiday and has stunning views. The property is very well kept, spotlessly clean, nice decor with all mod cons. Beaches are close by with our favourite being Chapel Porth and Truro is only 10 miles away. Looking forward to next year already! |
