Palazzo Massarucci is a charming, pink-stone, country-castle, lovingly restored with an eye to COMFORT, CONVENIENCE AND PLEASURE that can sleep 18-26 people. A BRIGHT AND CHEERY home with breathtaking views of the cities of SPOLETO and ASSISI, scattered farmhouses and vast forests rich with truffle, asparagus and mushroom. See the moon rise up so close you could hold it.

A large swimming pool, sauna and three double tubs proffer a SPA LIKE EXPERIENCE. Cozy bedrooms offer LUSH COTTON LINENS and THICK FEATHER DUVETS. All the rooms have heating for winter and some have luxurious under floor heating. Most have fireplaces.

Just twelve kilometers from Spoleto, known for its arts festival, this hilltop and Macerino are famous for two neighborhood Restaurants and one is just steps below the castle, serving authentic Umbrian cuisine with plenty of Truffle. Have an espresso or a cocktail in the attached bar or pick up an item from their well-stocked grocery. An adjacent property offers additional accommodations and the archaeological Roman site of Carsulae is only a hike away.

The grounds are fully landscaped with lush lawns, five meter climbing roses, jasmine that winds to the roof and giant lavender plants that invite butterflies throughout summer. Bulbs and perennials insure early blooms of colour.

The Umbria region

Umbria is famous for black truffle, wild asparagus, mushrooms, great wines and olive oil. The weather here is moderate, four seasons, each bringing new colours and glory to the forests surrounding Macerino and the castle. The castle is comfortable in any season, warm and cozy in the winter with underfloor heating, fluffy down duvets and many fireplaces. It's cool in the summer with its thick stone walls and north and south facing windows that allow lovely breezes.

Spoleto / Macerino area

Spoleto is famous for the arts festival "The Festival dei Due Mondi (Festival of Two Worlds)". It runs from mid-end June through mid-end July and features dance, opera, stage and fine arts. The Umbrian Jazz Festival fills the summer and throughout the spring, summer and fall you can find food and culture festivals, called 'Sagra' in every town in Umbria. Macerino holds a very sincere 'Sagra" in mid August.
There is skiing just an hour away in the winter.

How to get there

Fly to Rome. Train station right in the airport and you will take the Ancona line and get off in Terni or Spoleto. Both towns have taxi's in the station or car rental agencies nearby. I recommend 'Sixt" for car rental, good prices and good cars.

Or fly to nearby Perugia, a much smaller airport than Rome and easy to get in and out. You'll need to grab a taxi or car from here for a fourty minute ride to Macerino.

The house is laid out on three floors. The top floor has four bedrooms and one bathroom with shower and bidet. One of the bedrooms has a fireplace and a queen size bed, another has three twins curtained for privacy, one has twins and the third has a queen size bed. This floor also has a large siting room with foldout sofas and a kitchen.

The middle floor, right wing has a large suite that includes a large bedroom with fire place and a queen size bed, a large bathroom with jetted tub, shower, double sinks and bidet and an anti room with a private bar and refrigerator.

The left wing has a loft bedroom with a queen size bed and a fold down futon, the bathroom is down a short flight of stairs and has a shower and bidet. This floor also has the main grand salon with fireplace, the family room with fireplace, the dingroom with open grill and the main kitchen with grill, wood oven, oven, burners and dishwasher, four sinks and a pantry.

The bottom floor, right wing has a large suite that includes a bathroom with shower, bidet and sauna, a large bedroom with sofa area and a queen size bed and a full kitchen with oven, burners and dishwasher. This room also has a dining area and sofa area.

The bottom floor left wing has two large suites. One suite has a bathroom that includes jetted bathtub and spray bidet, a large bedroom with fireplace, a sofa area and a queen size bed. The other suite has a bathroom with jetted tub and bidet, the bedroom has a double size upper bunk and a twin bed below.

The grounds are fully landscaped and designed with an eleven by five meter swimming pool, lawns and a veranda. Five meter climbing roses bloom from May to October and jasmine climbs to the roof top circa 15 meters. Giant lavender plants invite butterflies throughout the summer. Bulbs and perennials ensure early blooms of colour. The forests are rich with truffle, wild asparagus and mushrooms surround Macerino.

Find everything from picnic blankets, baskets and backpacks. Feel free to open doors and drawers and discover lots of items for your convenience. The kitchen will normally have the basic herbs, salt and pepper etc. THE HOUSE HAS EVERYTHING. ENJOY!
