Villa | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 8
Only 3km from the hilltop town of Trevi, nestled among large oaks, fruit trees and olive groves is the quaint medieval hamlet of Coste.
Within this ancient group of homes, Casa Bosco is a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of city life, where one can easily enjoy the peace and beauty of the hills, and still be close enough to the town life of central Italy. Coste is short drives away from the frescoes of the world's most beautiful Basilica, in Assisi, the vineyards of Montefalco, the shops of Foligno, Spoleto's famous festival of music and theatre, and the Etruscan and Medieval wonders of the Umbrian capital, Perugia, not to mention all that lies between.
At 645 metres above sea level the air here is fresh and the views are of the Umbrian countryside, with its distinctive grey-green lines of olive groves - a landscape seemingly completely unchanged from the way the masters of the 1300-1400s depicted it in their frescos.
The rental property is a 300 square metre stone converted farmhouse, restored and enhanced by the Academy Award nominated Production Designer, Bruno Rubeo. Every detail has been carefully planned for a most relaxing and functional lifestyle.
The property is a combination of the flavour of “antica campagna”, with a modern and culturally rich taste for interior design, decorated with its own eclectic collection of art. It is a perfect combination in taste and modern comfort.
The property layout is designed for easy living on a single level. Three bedrooms with private bathroom all adjoin to an indoor courtyard with meditation garden, and can each be rented individually, or as a whole.
The main part of the house is equipped with a high end gourmet kitchen, which includes a rustic stone, wood burning fireplace for grilling meat and vegetables, and for toasting bruschetta o have with Trevi's rich local olive oil.
Casa Bosco also boasts two outdoor ovens for pizza and bread.
The smaller bedroom has its own small kitchen, and the third larger and more separate apartment (the Guesthouse) is also equipped with a full high end kitchen.
If one does not feel like cooking, a short walk into Coste offers 2 restaurants with wood burning ovens, serving local authentic Umbrian cuisine.
Outside, the swimming pool area is ideal for private sun bathing whilst gazing over the valley, with a salt water semi infinity pool which offers a cleaner and a far more pleasant swimming experience than chlorinated pools, gentle on the skin, eyes and hair. There is a shower to rinse off after swimming if one desires, and summer evenings can be spent here clocking dinners on the dedicated grill, which is permanently set into the stone wall.
When the evening turns cooler, the main part of the house has a fantastic Hollywood “executive style” home cinema. A room discretely tucked away from the living room, climate controlled, with sound proof walls, sofas seating 8, complete dolby surround sound, and a large flat screen 3D television with BlueRay. The film library offers virtually any film one can think of, and this feature of the rental property does tempt one to allow an entire weekend to disappear completely, letting oneself be transported into other worlds, accompanied by a bowl of freshly popped popcorn or a glass of Rosso di Montefalco.
Not only peaceful in its location and design, Casa Bosco is also energy self-sufficient, as it taps into geothermal power deep in the ground for underfloor heating, and uses solar panels for hot water. The water is also incredibly pure and fresh, coming directly from Casa Bosco's very own natural springs deep within the rocks underground, delivering the most wonderful shower and bath experience.
Casa Bosco's surroundings offer great outdoor activities, from country walks, cycling, to horseback riding, as there is a large equestrian centre at a very short walk away, in Coste.

The Umbria region
Umbria, known as the Green Heart of Italy, is a beautiful region of central Italy. It is scattered with medieval hilltop towns, some of the world's most amazing art from the middle ages and back to the Romans and Etruscans. The fertile slopes of the southern part of the region are filled with olive trees and vineyards. To the north, sitting close to Tuscany, the hills on either side of the Tiber river have oak and chestnut forests where white truffles and porcini mushrooms are found.
Being Tuscany's neighbour, Umbria is often overlooked, but it is a mystical and fascinating part of Italy. Its roots are ancient and it still maintains a quintessentially Italian feel, with the modern day Umbria very linked to its history and traditions. Perfect to go exploring, the roads are fairly quiet with endless hidden treasures.
