The Dalmatia region
The coastal regions of Croatia are comprised of the old Croatian states of Istria, Kvarner and Dalmatia. Dalmatia, or the Dalmatian Coast as it is more commonly known, can be divided into three regions: North Dalmatia, including Sibenik and Zadar, Central Dalmatia, including Trogir, Split, Hvar and Brac, and finally South Dalmatia, including Korcula and Dubrovnik.
The Croatian coast, by some miracle, has escaped the allure of concrete, and its natural beauty is enhanced by wonderful architectural jewels such as you'll find in Pula, Zadar, Sibenik, Trogir, Korcula, Split and the pearl of the Adriatic, Dubrovnik. Many smaller towns are equally impressive and charming and the landscape is quite simply breath taking. Croatia has 8 National Parks. Plitvice, one of the parks, has 92 magnificent waterfalls and like all the parks is overflowing with fauna and flora, forests, gorges, rivers and deep blue lakes. With there being over 1000 islands to explore along the Croatian coast it is not surprising that boating, in all its forms, is very popular here. The Croatian coastline is mainly mountainous and boasts some of the highest peaks in the Mediterranean. It is from these heights that you can appreciate just how crystal clear the turquoise blue waters of the Adriatic really are. It is no wonder that the sea around Croatia was the favourite haunt of Jacques Cousteau, as it is today for many contemporary undersea explorers. You'll find a multitude of beaches and coves, of small bays and marinas, nestled all along the coast of Croatia. Add to this the Mediterranean climate, balmy enough for olives, figs, vines, oranges and lemons to grow in abundance, it is easy to see why this is such a perfect destination for a holiday. Not forgetting one of the biggest attractions to this country, and that is the welcoming and good-hearted sincerity of the hosts, a kindness and quality of service that are an integral part of your stay. They have the unaffected desire to offer their guests the very best of everything and you will feel a true hospitality everywhere you go. You can not pack it away in your suitcase when you leave, but the Mediterranean warmth and the soft breath of the Continent will remain in your heart until you visit once again.
Welcome to Split, Europe's newest and most exciting destination! As Croatia joined the EU last year, more airlines than ever are scheduling flights to the Dalmatian capital, and no wonder with the range of fabulous tourism attractions on offer. Looking for history? Immerse yourself in 1700 years of history of a palace of a Roman Emperor. Islands? Split is the gateway to Dalmatian jewels such as Hvar, Brac and Vis. Beaches? Your choices of entry into the pristine Adriatic are enviable. Foodies? Croatia's gastronomic offer is attracting increasing international attention, and you can find out why on a stay in Split. Sport? Welcome to the home of Hajduk Split and Goran Ivanisevic. Activities? From sailing to rock climbing, hunting to horse riding, it is all here. And so much more.
NO.81's local area - Veli Varoš
Veli Varoš (Varoš) is located just west of Riva, on the southern slopes of Marjan. You can venture into Varoš through many winding roads that lead you into this labyrinthine neighbourhood.
This charismatic neighborhood takes more after an island village with traditional Dalmatian rural-like stone houses, narrow lanes, and scattered churches. This is becuase Varoš was developed by fishermen and farmers who came to Split to make a living and to seek shelter from the Ottoman invasion. Varoš however, was indeed later havocked by the Turks. Today, Varoš is not only the living quarters of fishermen who are surviving off their daily sardine catch but has become quite a prestige area. Close to the natural beauty of Marjan where locals and travellers alike enjoy exploring, it is also a stones throw away from the hustle and bustle of the city and the beautiful Riva. This location is ideal for someone who wants to be near the action of the city but also wants a restful nights sleep.
For those who don't want to venture too far Plinarska Ulica has everything you need; from restaurants Le monde & Paradox wine & cheese, supermarket, hairdressers, launderette, bank, newsagents and a local bakers. Everything you could need is within walking distance.

"We'll be back!"
We stayed in Split for three days after a week in Hvar. For a short break the apartment is ideal. It's close to everywhere where you would want to go to in Split. The apartment is finished to a high standard, clean and comfy and the owners were very welcoming.
Parking is abit tight around the apartment, however we seemed to find a place up the road, which was okay so not a problem for us!
We will definitely be back one day, and will recommend to anyone going to split.
