Gaway is renowned for its nightlife, summer festivals, traditional music and theatre. With hundreds of pubs, clubs, cafes and restaurants, Galway has no shortage of urban amenities to explore.

Connemara

Spiddal is located in Connemara, one of the most scenic areas in Ireland, dominated by the majestic Twelve Bens and Maum Turks mountain ranges, dotted with lakes and rivers, with hundreds of small bays and harbours to explore. The Irish language (Gaeilge) is widely spoken in Spiddal and much of Connemara, and many Irish traditions, customs, folklore and music are preserved here. Connemara is best explored by car, with a number of stunning routes beginning and ending at Tigh Lals Thatched Cottage! We would be delighted to help you plan your driving trip around this beautiful area.

Festivals

Galway is renowned for its summer festivals, which seem to run into each other all summer long! This year Galway welcomes finishing leg of the Volvo Ocean Race, the world famous Galway Arts Festival and the Galway Oyster Festival. The horse racing enthusiasts throng to Galway in their thousands in the end of July/early August to attend the Galway Races. Be prepared for some great racing and packed streets post racing!

Aran Islands

These three islands, Inis Mór, Inis Meáin and Inis Oirr are situated at the mouth of Galway bay. The Irish language is the main spoken tongue on the islands, which is also famous for its sea cliffs, geological rock formations, historical fortresses and its cultural heritage. The Aran islands are easily accessible from Tigh Lal, ferry access is a 20 minute drive from the cottage while flights are available a mere 10 minutes drive from the cottage.

More

Cher client,

Cordialement,
Carmel

Dear Guest,

We are glad you had a good stay in our cottage. I am sorry that you did not realise that the electricity was not included in the price, but it is clearly stated on our website in the “Rates and Availability” page (www.lalscottage.com/index.php/rates/). In future, we will pass on this information during the enquiry stages of guest booking to ensure that it is clear to all guests (the average electricity cost is €10 per week).

Please be aware that although the cottage has an old feel it is insulated to the very high standards, and ventilation is provided by opening windows. The central living area has a high ceiling (with overlooking balcony) and naturally it will require an amount of energy to heat this area. Also, April is not the warmest period of the year in Ireland!

Although 14 hours per week oil central heating is included in the weekly rental price, in reality, this amounts to 28-30 hours of heating time as the boiler switches on and off a number of times when it reaches the set temperature, i.e. it does not run continuously.

We accept that there might have been some misunderstanding in how best to use the heating system due to language difficulties (I am not a fluent French speaker). You only used 9 hours oil central heating (see above, 14 hours were included in the price) so you could have used another 5 hours for free. We have prepared a “welcome/information” document in French so that it will be clear to all our future guests how best to use the central heating system in order to gain maximum benefit from it.

We thank you very much for your feedback and hope to see you in Ireland again in the future.

Best regards,
Carmel

Carmel
