The Brittany / Finistere region
Brittany and particularly Finistere has a wealth of History to explore. From the Black Mountains to the Beaches. The wonderful boulders at Huelgoat and Nantes-Brest Canal provide some excellent walking opportunites.Huelgoat is also home to the famous Foret de Huelgoat and has a very pretty lake and the Jardin de l'Argoat with themed gardens and open-air concerts and tea rooms. Brest has one of the most impressive natural harbours in the world and is home to the Oceanopolis, a huge theme park set out to replicate a complete marine environment with the largest open air aquarium in Europe.
Pont Aven is famous for it's association with the Impressionists and particularly Gaugin.Messing about in boats ,swimming etc. can be done on/around the Lac du Drennan and the Lac de Guerledan. Carnac with it's standing stones is not to be missed.Excellent beaches and impressive coastline-there is too much to mention!
The Spezet / Kerpunz area
Kerpunz is a small and family friendly active farming hamlet. Sanctuary Cottage is located between the commune of Saint Hernin and Spezet. There are some stunning circular walks around Saint Hernin and Spezet with wonderful old churches, rivers, canals and historical sites.
Carhaix-Plouguer is only a short drive away for supermarkets and an Organic market-also riding and a swimming pool. There is a huge Festival that takes place in Carhaix in the summer, and the Tour de France was seen by thousands in the local area. The countryside is lovely and there is a Chateau or two to visit. The weather is warm, even hot in the summer-remember Brittany is further south than the Channel Islands!!
