High up on the hill of the West Coast the breeze up there is like a constant free Air Con. The peace and quiet is so welcome..... with less traffic up this end of the Island..... the ocean is in view and the beach is a roll down the hill...... we have a family of monkey's through here at times as they live a stones throw away at Farley Hil, the zoo. The Apartment is overlooking the pools and watching the place evolve with new villas and apartments and the landscapes taking shape!

The St Peter Parish region

The local tipple is Rum and the local's Mount Gay Ru m & Coke. There is also a very good Rum Punch, which really does pack a punch, its tastes very fruity, but watch it! (A large Rum & Coke will usually set you back around £1.70) Local beer is Banks Beer (Usually around £1). Local foods include: Fried Chicken, Flying Fish, Rice & Peas & Macoroni Pie. Another local fish is "Dolphin", but this is not "Dolphin" as we no it, but a fish called Dorado or Mahi-Mahi.

Restaurants: Prices vary from £8 to £100's(!!) dpending on if you eat at local establishments or the more exclusive restaurants!

Transport: Taxi's - Always establish a price with the driver before your journey, ZR Vans (so called by the pre-fix "ZR" on trhidytsyion plate), very handy for coastal runs and into Bridgetown, BBDS$1.50 takes you anywhere on "their" route and will stop only for a pick up or drop off, where as the buses will stop at all stops regardless, again for BBDS$1.50. If you want to see Barbados away from all the tourism, this is the way to travel.

Sports & Leisure - 5 World Class Golf Courses, Cricket at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, which was revamped to a very high standard for the World Cup 2007. Horse Racing at the Garrison which hosts the Cockspurs Gold Cup, but now known as the Sandy Lane Gold Cup. The course attracts jockeys from all over the world including from the U.K and Ireland. Race days also feature entertainment laid on in the middle of the course, which includes local food and drink, vendors, bring a picnic and even have a flutter on the many side games, like bingo, poker, rummy, coloured dice etc. Great fun for everyone!!

All water sports are in abundance, all around the coastline. The east coast attracts the surfers, as the coastline is very rugged (very cornish), the south coast is much more commericalised with bars and restaurants etc and sandy beaches with calm breezes and the west coast is much more sheltered, hot with sandy beaches and blue blue seas.

Speightstown / Mount Brevitor area

Speightstown was the first major port and commercial centre of Barbados. Falling into disrepair and neglected over the years it has now been revived and is now a bustling town with unique shops and great places to eat. It plays host to the brand new luxury marina development - Port St. Charles. There are excellent hotels and restaurants in the area, along with a fishing station, where the local catch can be purchased. (But usually all gone by lunch time!)

Further on down the road are scattered Chattel houses they play host to local food and Karokes, which leads to Holetown, which is now home to some lovely hotels and restaurants and duty free shopping.

Guestbook for Brocklestone Hill

We just wanted to drop a line to say a huge thank you for a wonderful, peaceful stay. I have never felt more relaxed coming back from a holiday as i did this time. The apartment is very comfortable and clean, with as you mentioned the beautiful cool breeze that just wisps thru the apartment, while gently blowing the curtains hanging by the french doors. My favourite time of the day at Brocklestone was the evening, around 6pm, when the sun started to dip, I would open up the front door leading onto the veranda, thake my chair out there and watch the sun sink into the sea, watching the night roll in and listening to the crickets start up, while enjoying a gin and tonic, with lots of ice that is constantly being replenished by that big beautiful fridge!
We will be back next year!
