Casa della Maestra is a charming cottage style house situated on a hillside with stunning views over the Umbrian countryside. It has complete peace and privacy being 10 minutes drive up a country lane from the nearest village in the valley below. The pool is large (6x12 metres with deep end) and completely private to the house, it has sun all day and sun-loungers from where to enjoy the view and shade is provided in the poolside pergola. There is free Wifi internet.
Currently the house is being extended from a 2 bedroom house on one floor to a 4 bedroom house on 2 floors. Building work is expected to be finished in March. The owners are spending May and June at the house putting the finishing touches to decoration and furnishings. There will be 2 new bathrooms and a new open plan kitchen dining and living room. All the floor tiles are being renewed with handmade terra-cotta tiles. We are offering the house from July at a special low price now until we have photographs of the finished house.
The house is gated to the front where a gravel courtyard has tables, chairs and a barbecue. Gated steps lead up to the first floor veranda which runs round 2 sides of the house. On the ground floor the door opens onto the sitting room/kitchen diner. A large room with the kitchen/diner at the back of the room and sitting room to the fore with a staircase leading to the upper floor. Upstairs there are four bedrooms (2 double and 2 with 2 single beds each that can be made up as doubles). There are 2 bathrooms each with shower, WC and basin. The house has Wifi internet.
From the house it is a 10 minute drive down the country road to the Niccone Valley and the village of Spedalicchio where there is a small grocery shop, there are 3 good restaurants within 15 minutes drive of the house. The market town of Umbertide is a 20 minute drive where there are shops, supermarkets, restaurnats and a weekly market. The beautiful medieval Tuscan town of Cortona is a 45 minute drive and from there the other Tuscan towns of Siena, Montepulciano, the Chianto Region. In Umbria the towns of Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio, Citta di Castello, Todi and Orvieto are all within a day's sight-seeing. The main line station connecting to Florence and Rome is a 45 minute drive.

About this location
The Umbria region
Casa della Maestra is located high above the Niccone Valley which runs between Tuscany and Umbria. Casa della Maestra is on the Umbrian side. The nearest town is Umbertide which has a colourful local market weekly and many shops and restaurants. The Umbrian towns of Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio, Todi and Orvieto with their wealth of artistic treasures, sublime architecture and long histories are all within each reach. In Tuscany, Cortona is within 45 minutes drive, the Chianti region is just over one hour's drive as is Siena and the famous wine towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino.
The Niccone Valley is one of the most sought-after locations on the Tuscany-Umbria border. It is a beautiful green valley dotted with castles and stone farmhouses and cypress lined drives. It is a very peaceful area and good for walking. Try Martin Daykin's "Circular Walks on the Tuscany and Umbria border". There are walks from the front door of Casa della Maestra. In May and June the valley abounds with wild flowers. It is very hot in July to mid-August but the high altitude of Casa della Maestra means the nights are always a pleasant temperature.
