The Black Sea Coast region

The Black Sea Coast has a subtropical climate making it a perfect holiday destination from Mid April - end October. The summer temperatures average 28 degrees and can reach 35 degrees but the breeze from the sea create a pleasant cooling effect. Burgas City, is the fourth largest city in Bulgaria and is situated closeby and perfect for shopping, sitting outside one of the many street cafes or going to the beach as the city rests on the coastline.

The region is popular with tourists because the coastline hosts many resort villages and towns so if you wish to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing location the area offers many small hotels and privately run accommodation providing guests with a more intimate holiday experience.

There are excellent public transport routes available in the region making getting out and about convenient and inexpensive. There are 3 major airports servicing the region, Sofia, Varna and Burgas being the closest to the area.

There are also a number of large lakes and protected national parks in the region and the outskirts of Burgas City is home to a Bird Sanctuary housing some endangered species and has some 2,500m of natural pathway within the reserve open to visitors.

Vaya Lake in Burgas, is the largest naturally formed lake in the country and is home to a large number of wildlife. There are also mineral mudbaths free to all visitors.

So if you wish to relax on the beach, explore the countryside, fish, birdwatch, pamper yourself, shop, go nightclubbing etc this region offers something for everyone in a climate that will allow you to enjoy yourself.

Sozopol

Sozopol is located only 35km southeast from Burgas City and is an ancient town and one of the oldest on the black sea coast. It is particularly famous for its hosting of the annual 'Apollina Art & Film Festival' in September and draws a wide range of visitor from all over the globe. The current town was formed in 7th Century BC by the Greek colonists and still today you can see Greek influences in architecture and cuisine.

There are a wide range of Greek, traditional bulgarian and Turkish restaurants to chose from and the beaches are small but clean and convenient to various parts of the town.

The summer becomes very busy in this area but offers much for those interested in archeology, history, art and music. There are a number of outdoor eateries and kerbside cafes to chose from and a number of quality art and craft galleries.

There are also a number of outlying islands and there are daily boat trips around these islands and the bay of Sozopol. Fishing trips and diving can also be provided by one of the operators along the quayside.

The Ropotama River is within the region and is 30m wide in parts and reaches into the sea and is home to some 100 endangered flora and fauna. There are daily boat trips along this river in the summer months.

"well appointed and well maintained - nice touches"

Michele and David were wonderful hosts who kept at a polite distance but were always available should anything go wrong or you wanted some help confirming flights or discussions with the hire car company almost within minutes of asking. We had an issue with the pool which was very efficiently dealt with.
Rosen is a bit of the beaten track but in Bulgaria all but the main roads, are beaten tracks and Sozopol and other nearby resorts were crowded and the towns have no found parking meters. We were very glad that we stayed in Rosen as you get a bit of real Bulgaria even though communications are difficult, which is our fault and not theirs.
We did a big shop in Bourgas from the airport which was small diversion and well worth it even though the signs are awful if you see one at all, and if you can get a dual language map which shows places in English and Bulgarian you might have fighting chance to get where you want to go. Sometimes towns beyond where you want are signposted so look for that. Driving standards are abysmal and expect no English from the local Police who can be locally biased so take pictures if you are unlucky enough to get into an incident.
Eating out was cheap as was shopping but we noticed a distinct increase from last time but much cheaper than anywhere else and we were lucky to enjoy some lovely weather without the downside of too hot such as Thunderstorms and power downs.
The house had loads of room and lots of stuff to go at in the cupboards such as salt sugar and spices and was very clean.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review about our property and your experience during your stay with us. We are delighted you enjoyed a pleasant stay with us and thank you for your valued feedback. We wish you well and once again, thank you for your comments. Michelle Finlay

"Fantastic villa in a traditional Bulgarian village."

The villa, pool & gardens were really wonderful. The photos simply don't do justice to just how lovely everything is. There's an outside kitchen with a sink & fridge right next to the BBQ which is great in the evenings. There is plenty of shade provided by the lovely wooden pagoda and the sun terrace is perfect if you want even more evening sun. The villa is extremely well equipped and comfortable with everything you could possibly need, a real home from home. Michelle & David have thought of everything from road maps, phrase books, a luggage weighing scales, an excellent, varied choice of good books and DVDs and also a very useful bottle opener in the outside kitchen for the cold beers! The house is really comfortable and the location in the heart of the village allowed us to see real Bulgarian life. The beautiful beach & Sea Gardens in Burgas are 20 mins drive away & the nearby fish restaurant is an absolute must, the calamari we ate here is the best we've ever had! We had a fantastic time at Villa Rosen & Michelle & David did everything they could to make it so enjoyable. Thank you!

"Everything well organised by Michelle and Dave a great villa a great vacation."

We were met at the airport by Michelle and Dave at 1am and made very welcome.
The villa is in the centre of the village. You can have privacy around the pool
You can also walk out of the front gate into the heart of the village.
There are several bars in the village. There are two small supermarkets a cafe which mainly serves Bulgarian style food. There is off street parking. The bus stop is outside the villa.
All the bedding is clean and well presented. The villa inside and out was very clean and tidy.
The nearest beach has a great fish restaurant a few minutes walk from the beach. Fluent bulgarian speaking Michelle and Dave organised horse riding, kyaking and quad biking.
I cannot think of any one thing we didn't like. Nothing was too much trouble for Michelle and Dave.
