The Tuscany region

Few geographical areas in the world can boast of the variety of The Tuscan environment, especially the Sienese area. In the North East you find the richness of the Chianti landscape, woven with vines and olive groves spread up on the hills. it is one of the most famous wine areas in Italy.

One can also visit beautiful towns like San Gimignano and Monteriggioni, with their medieval towers and walls, winding streets and stunning views. South of Siena, the Arbia valley leads to the hilltop town of Montalcino, home to the famous Brunello wine.

Besides it is worth do discover the amazing "Crete Senesi" area with its harsh rock formations and its unique landscapes. Westwards it is possible to reach the Maremma beaches as well as some beautiful medieval hilltop towns like Castiglione della Pescaia or Talamone, with their imposing forts overlooking the sea, or the still unspoilt Natural reserve L'Uccellina.

With such natural and artistic beauty within easy reach by car or public transport, Siena is a good base for visitors to enjoy a memorable Tuscan holiday.

Surrounded by olive groves and the Chianti vineyards, Siena is one of the most beautiful cities in Tuscany and in the whole Italy.

Set on three hills, the city is drawn together by winding alleyways and steep hills. The Campo square stands at its heart, whilst the cathedral and St Maria della Scala complex serve as additional cultural landmarks.

Well known for the "Palio", the historic horse race which takes place every year on the 2nd July and the16th August, it is also home to one of the oldest Universities in Europe, which ensures a vibrant Italian student atmosphere throughout the academic year. In addition to the bustling daily life in the streets and squares of the city, Siena offers many cultural events, concerts, cinema, theatre and a wide range of sporting activities.

Sovicille is a small, lely village perched on the Montagnola Senese's hills, 15 km away from the main city.

Plonged into the luxuriant green oak, olm-oak and cypress woods, it is partially surrounded by fields and vineyards while enjoying magnificent views over the surrounding hills where the peculiar red colour of the so called “terra di Siena” stands out.

The Sovicille area offers a rich historic and artistic background, like the many Romanesque churches spread up in the beautiful countryside, the lovely Renaissance villas and the imposing castles.
