The East Anglia / Suffolk region

Renowned as one of the UK's most attractive counties Suffolk offers a laid back pace of life with high quality local produce and fascinating local history. Close to the Broads, and 2 1/2 hours drive from London and the Midlands, Suffolk remains unspoilt and offers a warm welcome to visitors from the UK and abroad.
Places to visit in the local area:
Aldeburgh - A pretty town on the coast with a shingle beach. Freshly landed fish can be bought daily from the huts on the beach. The annual Aldeburgh Arts and literacy festival is held in June. Also famous with it's connections to Benjamin Britten.
Thorpeness - A very quirky village on the coast with a shingle beach. The village was built in the 1920s and is centred around a large boating lake called the mere.
Dunwich - Dunwich used to be a thriving town a couple of hundred years ago. Now most of it has been lost to the sea due to coastal erosion and is now classified as a small village. Dunwich has it's own museum which is well worth a visit. Dunwich is very popular with walkers as it has it's own forest and heathlands with miles of footpaths.
RSPB MInsmere - One of RSPBs most famous nature reserves. It has been a reserve for over 50 years and pioneered the use of observation hides and management of wetland areas to enable visitors to see the huge range of birds that pass along the coast.

The Southwold area
Southwold is a pretty unspoilt seaside town situated on the Suffolk Heritage Coast. It has a beautiful long sandy beach which is adorned by colourful beach huts, a working lighthouse, harbour and stylish pier. The unique town consists mainly of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian properties and has lovely open green areas.
Shops range from a quality butchers, greengrocers, delicatessen to chic boutique shops and art galleries. There is a good choice of hotels and restaurants and local pubs which sell the locally brewed Adnams Ales. The area is great for walking or cycling with miles of footpaths and quiet roads and tracks to cycle along. There are a couple of cycle hire shops in Southwold which stock bikes of all sizes. Southwold also has it's own Golf Course.
The area is known for its literary and music festivals and sailing as well as the abundant wildlife, including RSPB Minsmere, ensuring that there is plenty to appeal whatever your interests. Children will enjoy taking the hand rowed ferryboat from the harbour across to the pretty village of Walberswick and practising their crabbing skills whilst grown ups will appreciate the areas wealth of pubs and restaurants!
