The Central Southern England region
The maritime city of Southampton is a historic port and a vibrant modern city that attracts visitors from all over the world. You will find tourist attractions to suit all ages and interests, including the Maritime Museum, the City Art Gallery and the Mayflower Theatre (the largest theatre in Hampshire, which offers all the West End blockbusters as well as ballet and opera).
The Ocean Village which is a short drive away has popular waterside restaurants, 2 cinemas within a stone's throw. Stroll a litle further to Oxford Street and you will have the option to dine in many restaurants, as you would expect from an international city, you will find cuisine styles from all over the world. West Quay is about fashion and premier shopping, rated as one of the top shopping experiences in the country with all the big name retailers you would expect. There is also Ikea in the West Quay Retail Park (check out the view from the Ikea restaurant across Southampton Docks and The Cruise Ships). Southampton also good nightlife, 4 casino's and several nightclubs covering all genre of musical tastes
Points of interest within an hour drive include Chichester , Winchester and Salisbury with their famous cathedrals. The cities of Southampton and Portsmouth with their historic ports and dockyards. Both cities have world class shopping centres. Beaulieu and the New Forest National Park with its free roaming ponies and splendid walks. Netley Victoria Country Park with its first world war hospital site and beach walks along the Solent. Manor Farm Country Park which is ideal for children as it has a hands-on old fashioned farming and lifestyle theme. For the more adventurous young at heart is Paultons Park which is a childrens theme park with Peppa Pig World set in a beautiful garden with museum and bird averies.
This part of Central Southern England is a major tourist destination. The area is rich in maritime history, with the historic port cities of Portsmouth and Southampton. Both cites are also vibrant shopping and cultural centres. England's South Coast, with its numerous seaside resorts, are popular with tourists. The New Forest and the Isle of Wight are also within easy reach and definitely worth a visit.
