There are many places of interest around Derbyshire, and plenty of history. Wingfield manor ( where Mary Queen of Scots was held prisoner) is only a few minutes drive away. In the surrounding area you can visit Chatsworth House and Gardens, Haddon Hall and Gardens, Hardwick Hall and Gardens, Wingfield Manor, Crich Tramway Museum, John Smedley factory shop - Lea (famous for its knitwear), Matlock indoor swimming pool, Carsington Water – bird watching, walking, cycling, windsurfing, sailing and fishing, Tissington trail – cycling and walking, Matlock Bath – cable cars to The Heights of Abraham, Lea Rhododendron Gardens and much more.
The Conkers is situated in a lovely hamlet between Crich and South Wingfield. There are no shops, however there are village shops only a short drive away. If you enjoy walking we have many interesting walks and footpaths from the door and surrounding area.
The Conkers is a great place to use as a base to visit all of Derbyshires main attractions and a wonderful place to relax in the beautiful garden or just put your feet up in the tastfully furnished apartment.

I am extremely surprised at this review.
These guests asked for a Thursday to Thursday booking, but as I already had a Friday to Friday booking this was not possible. They went ahead with the booking which I understood to be Friday to Thursday (six day bookings are the same cost as a 7 day in peak season) I did email asking them to confirm whether it was a 6 day or a 7 day booking but did not receive a reply so booked The Conkers out for six days. It wasn't until they arrived that we realised that they thought they were staying for severn nights. I went to see them the following day to discuss the matter. They were fine and understood that it was a misunderstanding, however, I did offer to book them in at the local pub at a cost of £90 (which I was willing to pay for) but they said they were happy to leave a day early and visit their daughter. I also gave them a £12 bottle of presseco which they were delighted with. They came to say good bye before they left and said how much they had enjoyed their stay with no mention of their displeasure. I did refund £45 not £25 as stated in the review.

"We may have missed out"
We read the glowing TA reviews and were looking forward to staying there. We arrived and found the apartment was everything the pictures and reviews portrayed. The area is wonderful and the location … More
Im so sorry to read that your stay was not what you expected. With regard to the children crying in the garden, this is a one acre plot and it is unfortunate if they were close to the apartment but normally they play in the play area well away from the house. Our dogs are not encouraged to enter the property so I am surprised that they did wander in as this only happens if guests encourage them. Our drive is designed to park at least 10 vehicles so if there were 4 other cars on the drive it should not have caused a problem. My family are always friendly, helpful and polite with all guests staying at The Conkers. I am sorry that the stay was not up to your expectations and wish you all the best on the rest of your trip.
