The South East England region
London is the capital of England and the United Kingdom, the largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom and the largest urban zone in the European Union by most measures. London has been a major settlement for two millennia, its history going back to its founding by the Romans, who called it Londinium.
London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its square-mile medieval boundaries. Since at least the 19th century, the name London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms the London region and the Greater London administrative area, governed by the elected Mayor of London and the London Assembly.
London is a leading international city, with ,many strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transport all contributing to its prominence. It is the world's largest financial centre alongside New York, has the largest city GDP in Europe and is home to the headquarters of more than 100 of Europe's 500 largest companies. It is the most visited city in the world. London's five international airports make its airspace the busiest of any urban centre worldwide and London Heathrow is the world's busiest airport by number of international passengers. London's 43 universities form the largest concentration of higher education in Europe. In 2012 London will become the first city to host the Summer Olympics three times.
London has a diverse range of peoples, cultures and religions, and more than 300 languages are spoken within the city. In July 2007 it had an official population of 7,556,900 within the boundaries of Greater London, making it the most populous municipality in the European Union. The Greater London Urban Area is the second largest in the EU with a population of 8,278,251, while London's metropolitan area is the largest in the EU with an estimated total population of between 12 million and 14 million.
London contains four World Heritage Sites: the Tower of London; the Royal Botanic Gardens and Kew; the site comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and St. Margaret's Church; and the historic settlement of Greenwich (in which the Royal Observatory marks the Greenwich Meridian (0° longitude) and GMT). Other famous landmarks include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, 30 St Mary Axe (The Gherkin), St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge and Trafalgar Square. London is home to numerous museums, galleries, libraries, sporting events and other cultural institutions including the British Museum, National Gallery, British Library, Wimbledon and 40 theatres. London's Chinatown is the largest in Europe. The London Underground network is the oldest underground railway network in the world and the most extensive after the Shanghai Metro
South East London
Catford is a busy shopping district in south-east London, recently regenerated. It is named after the wildcats believed to have roamed the land in ancient times, and the enormous, sculpted figure of a cat peers down from the sign above Catford Centre, a small shopping mall. The cat is one of the area's most unusual landmarks, the other being an Oliver Barratt sculpture called The Water Line, a mass of twisty blue steel pipes located outside Eros House. More traditional is the Grade II-listed Broadway Theatre, with its green spire and exceptional art-deco interior. The Broadway presents music, drama and entertainment in its two theatres, with local and international performers, and incorporates a cinema. It also hosts CAMRA's annual Catford Beer Festival. The theatre is situated close to the main shopping area, Catford Broadway, where a popular market is open four days a week. A second market is housed indoors at the shopping centre. There are many sporting opportunities in Catford, especially at Ladywell Arena and Ladywell Fields. Mountsfield Park, with its sweeping views over London, also offers pitches and courts as well as ornamental gardens and a bandstand, and it hosts the annual Lewisham People's Day festival.

"Comfortable, affordable apartment close to the city"
Thank you for a great stay, we really enjoyed ourselves. We have never stayed at a host family before and was worried if we had made the right choice. But we had such a pleasant stay, much better than a hotel. We were given great tips on local places to visit and great places to visit during our stay which we really enjoyed as these places were not mentioned in the local guide. We were collected from the airport which was also wonderful. The food was great, and we really enjoyed our talks at the dinner table. This has been a succesul trip, only complaint is that our trip ended so quickly. Thanks again for everything Mrs Depass you are very kind. Hope to visit again one day we will take away fond memories of our trip to London.
Thank you for your lovely review, we are happy to hear you had such a lovely stay with us, it was lovely having you. We hope one day when to see you again. Good luck with your interior design business.

What can I say what a wonderful experience to our visit to London. We had a very pleasant stay at Parkview apartments. The room was very comfortable and as described. The views were great and the park adjacent to the property was lovely for walks. The train station is a very short walk and we were able to visit London by train and get back home easily. The host and family were very helpful and catered to our needs entirely. We shall definetly be returning next year. Thanks again.

"Clean, comfy and cheap"
We are an older couple and spent two weeks with Sandra and her family. The accommodation is extremely clean and cosy and we were made very welcome. It is not an apartment and we did share with another couple for a few nights which we were not expecting, so be prepared that it is only a bedroom where one must eat, relax and sleep. The kitchen very small with basic facilities, but enough to make tea and toast and there is a microwave. The photographs are a little misleading....as stated in other reviews....however the position is fabulous ( 15 mins walk to train and 15 mins to Central London ) the view from our bedroom window lovely and the host extremely helpful and friendly. Thank you very much Sandra for our stay and for dropping us at the train station.
Thank you taking the time to leave your review and some kind comments. We are pleased you found the location and views so fabulous, we are so lucky to have 2 train stations in Catford next door to each other that run a regular service into Central London. We do pride ourselves on hygiene and feel it important to keep everything cleaned daily for you. With regards to your comments that you had to share for a few nights which you was not expecting has somewhat surprised me. I have since written to you asking you to check the history of our written conversations, whereby I had advised you that the apartment has 2 bedrooms and holds 5 people, and as you are a couple you would only be occupying 1 room, the other room would be let. You responded that this would be fine, and reserved. Obviously larger groups occupy both rooms and only share with their group. Evidently, when the other room became vacant, you approached me one evening explaining that your daughter had experienced difficulties at her student accommodation and would it be OK for her to stay over. In hindsight, I should have kept the situation professional and charged for those nights, but I decided to relax the rules and allow you daughter to stay FREE of charge. However, I felt blessed to have been able to help out in the difficult circumstances without applying further pressure (It was Christmas and Christmas is for giving). The kitchenette is as described, it is not a fully equipped kitchen, and it is used for preparing breakfast and light meals and is fully functional for many who's purpose is to use the apartment as a base before hitting the sights of London, it is not in our interest to deceive anyone. We provide hot cooked meals for many of our guests upon request, and this has been highlighted in reviews about our delicious meals we provided and enjoyed, whilst in the Lounge at the dinner table. Lastly, it was a pleasure having you stay with us, your husband is a true comedian and should have his own TV show. Giving you a lift to the train station was our final gesture and you are welcome!!. We wish you all the best, and hope to see you again maybe one day.

"Very convenient location with knowledgeable and helpful landlord"

Thank you very much for your lovely review. It was an absolute pleasure hosting you both. You have been voted as one of the nicest guests we have had stay with us, the pleasure was ours. Apologise about the hot water, the plumber has now been in to repair what was a faulty pressure switch, thank you for bringing this to our attention.
We are happy you had such a great time here, you having great memories of London/us leaves us with a sense of pride in that we have done a job well done. We look forward to you coming again with more friends next year as discussed. Take good care and thank you for the California fridge magnet and chocolates.

"This is a fabulous place to stay!!!"
We loved my stay here, the apartment is spacious and surrounded by trees. Great location for buses, trains and tubes it is fantastic. The apartment is well maintained and comfortable.. The bed was comfortable, linen crisp and clean. It is a quiet place with the windows looking out onto parkland where you will see nature and wildlife. There are shops, cafes and restaurants all within walking distance.
It was my wife, me and our daughters aged 9 & 17 that stayed here. It is about a 10 mins walk overground ride to Central London, It is extremely fast and convenient that allowed us to explore the whole city of London and make it back in the evenings easily. There is a bus stop right around the corner from the flat. Can't say enough about this place except definitely stay here. It will be worth it. If I make it back to London any time soon, I will be staying here again.
The owner was very accommodating and friendly throughout the process. The property was a nice 2 bedroom with a great little kitchenette and a comfortable reception room.. The area was quiet and the entire stay was nice.
Thank you for your kind comments. We are very pleased to have read you enjoyed your stay with us. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

"Should have read ALL reviews before"
We stayed here with 2+2 people for 4 nights from August 03, 2013 to August 07, 2013. The rooms were clean, the bathroom was sufficient. So far so good. But while being already on tour we received an email from Mrs. Depass that there was an overbooking for our last night with a Dutch couple 'by mistake'. So there was no other chance for us except putting up with the sharing. That was a few days before arriving in London. I had my doubts that the cross booking happened accidentally. My guess was it happened with willful intent to maximise utilisation. Being in sales, I call it 'maximise customer value'. Now, one of the other reviewer here prooved my guess.
When arriving we were surprised to see the apartment. The bed rooms as well as the bathroom were fitted as described. But the pictures 1,7,8 are private rooms of Mrs. Depass and have got nothing to do with the apartment. They were not offered to us. This was totally misleading. We expected to have a room with a table and space to have breakfast. Instead of that we had to sit on the bed and eat from plastic picknick plates on a table not higher than a 2ft side table. The kitchenette is not fully equipped. There is neither a water supply nor a cooker apart from the microwave. It is so small that only 1 person can operate here. We could bear with this but not when having payed more than 110 £ in total per night. We feel betrayed.
If you arrive you'll get immediately in contact with Mrs. Depass's strict rules - "take your shoes off at the door", "don't touch the wall with the luggage" and so on. This is what we didn't like. 1.) We are civilised people and know how to behave. 2.) Renting a flat causes normal wearing. One of the reasons you get money for.
I would never recommend this appartment
Thank you for your feedback. We take all criticism into account so as to help improve our services. But we have noted that you have exaggerated the truth to enable your extravagant story to carry more weight, which is totally unnecessary.
You received an email from me 1 month prior to your arrival (as trip advisor can confirm as all correspondence was carried out via their systems) informing you of my mistake and with the over booking on your last night with the lovely Dutch couple. I apologised for this oversight and made you 2 offers, a full refund or an alternative move to our sister company which was available with 2 bedrooms & ensuite bathrooms. I also sent you photo's. You replied that you accepted this oversight and would like to keep your booking with us at Parkview B&B as you had read our good reviews.
I now find it somewhat upsetting that you are insinuating that I had mislead you in order to 'maximise customer value'. I would like to remind you that we take bookings from minimum 3 nights, and we are happy to accommodate bookings big or small. But you booking was for 4 nights which is a relatively short booking compared too many booking we have of 2-8 weeks. Therefore, I find it now astonishing that you are insinuating that I had mislead you in order to 'maximise customer value' on such a small booking.
Pictures 1,7,8 are as described, they are part of our household which we were happy to share with you and have done with our sociable guests on many occasions. Our guests are welcome to use the garden area, their children have enjoyed playing on the trampoline whilst their parents have sat and enjoyed watching with a drink. It is also used by smokers. I personally invited you and your family on 2 x occasions to come and join us for an English breakfast, of which you said you would let me know, but did not get back to me. Also previous guests have mentioned in their reviews that they enjoyed their conversation with us at the dinners. So we are not misleading anyone, it is not in our interest to do so. There is also a fold up dinner table available for guests to use. The kitchenette is also as described, there is no mention in our description of a fully fitted kitchen with cooker, and the kitchenette is designed to be used for preparing a light breakfast for those visiting London and enjoying London lifestyle. We offer fully cooked English breakfast and dinners whereby you would come and join us in the dining area. Therefore I would suggest you ask someone who speaks better English than yourself to translate your difficulty of understanding of clearly written English documentats if this is a concern of yours. There is also a water facilities for you to use, so it appears as though you are describing another property.
With regards to the price, you booking was made during high season, you were happy with price and you obviously shopped around before placing your booking with us. We know we are very competively priced for our great location and easy commute to central London which again has been mentioned several times in previous reviews.
With regards to my strict rules, you entered my house with dried muddy hiking boots, did you really expect me not to ask you to remove your boots before walking on my clean carpets upstairs. This is not strict rules this is simply hygiene something of which we pride ourselves on, obviously everyone is different. Never before has a guest mentioned this to be a problem, in fact agreed with me as they do this at their own homes. I did also ask you politely to be careful when carrying your luggage up the stairs as previous guests have scrapped the walls causing damage, again this is not strict rules.
Lastly, you have described yourself as civilised people!!, but we have been running our business for over 5 years and we have met some lovely Germans along the way, some of which promise to return as their stay went to quick. You have also read the lovely comments left in our visitor book. We have never experience anyone who leaves the house like yourselves and does not even give us the chance to say 'goodbye, have a nice day' only to hear the door slam shut behind you and your gone, not to mention the condition of the apartment left by you on a daily basis, we had to give the apartment a chemical clean... Thank god, we have seldom guests like you, who are travelling for themselves instead show little bit more tolerance and enjoy the holiday like many other guests.
You have mentioned that you would not recommend us to your friend/family.... but so many others have and will continue to do so. However, we wish you and your family all the best for the future.
