Note that the vicinity of the train lines does not add the noise! Indeed the gardens are as peaceful and quiet as can be in a quality London suburb.

The South East England / London region
Beckenham is smart, clean, green and respectable. It combines closeness and convenience of commute to the buzz world of the centre of London with a bourgeois feel of an upmarket suburb.
The location is highly convenient for visiting the centre of London, with two stations, one within 3 min (!) walk with trains to London Victoria and the other within 10 min walk with trains to London Bridge, Charing Cross and Cannon Street. The service is frequent (every 10-15 min) and efficient, taking you to Central London in 18 - 20 minutes.
A small Tesco is within 5 - 7 min walk and a large Sainsbury's is within 10 - 12 minuted walk.
The house is formally situated in the county of Kent, it shares its history and traditional style of its properties, with recognisable Tudoresque black on white wooden panelling being one of the most prominent features.
The South-East London / Beckenham area
In addition to the wealth of places of interest in the centre of London you can also do some local sightseeing.
There are a few parks within walking and cycling distance - Cator Park, Beckenham Place Park, Kelsey Park, Crystal Palace, Dulwich park.
Other near-by attractions include Dulwich Picture Gallery, Horniman Museum, Chislehurst Caves, Crystal palace Museum. Within 30-40 min drive you can visit Chartwell House (former home of Winston Churchill), Downe House (former home of Charles Darwin), Lullingstone Castle and a few more. Northern Kent offers many walking routes and has a few horse riding centres.
There are several public golf courses, and many other sports facilities. A large sports centre with swimming pools and gyms is within walking distance.
