The South East England region
London has a two thousand year history, so you can see remains of Roman London, but the lovely thing about London is that it is a city of villages so as it grew and incorporated surrounding villages these have kept a lot of their original character. As well as the great history in Greenwich/Woolwich, as you travel closer to the centre from Greenwich/Woolwich you have the Tower of London, the Gerkin and the Shard, Threadneedle Street and St.Paul's Cathedral, the West End with its 30-so theatres, Buckingham Palace - the lit is endless, Well known shopping centres - Harrods, Carnaby Street, Oxford Street - are just waiting for you to do some therapy shopping.
Go to the Royal Albert Hall which not only boasts the big music events but enjoy live jazz in the evening while eating in the Edgar Room, or live music while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee at the Café Consort.
Travel a bit further and such sights as Windsor Catle and Stratford upon Avon await you. Although we don't have a Mediterranean climate, the weather is generally mild.
South East London
Greenwich was of major importance in the great days of British maritime power, so you can visit the Cutty Sark, the National Maritime Museum, the Queen's House, the Royal Observatory - you can stand on the Prime Meridian Line! as well as see a breath-taking view of London from Observatory Hill; there is the O2 which has become the mecca for live entertainment extravaganzas; Greenwich Park is also the start of the London Marathon, and Greenwich Park will be the Olympic venue for the equestrian events and Woolwich Common will be the Olympic venue for the Rifle and Pistol events.
There is also at Woolwich the Thames Flood Barrier, a wonderful example of modern engineering as well as being visually impressive, also the Royal Artillery Museum, and from Woolwich Arsenal take a meander along the Thames on the river-boats to the London Eye opposite Big Ben, or further down to Richmond and Hampton Court.
Just over the Thames from Woolwich is the City Airport, so why not fly in to City Airport and take the automated Docklands Light Railway to Woolwich Arsenal.
