East Hampshire lies on the border with West Sussex and Surrey to the north. It has historic houses such as Uppark and Stansted Park and houses with literary connections such as Jane Austen's house at Chawton and Gilbert White's at Selbourne. Children will love the steam engines on the watercress line and Hollycombe and Birdworld is a must at Farnham. There is also lots of history in the cities of Winchester, Chichester and Portsmouth, a visit to King Henry VIII's ship at Portsmouth is not to be missed, along with the Spinnaker Tower.
The South Downs / Ramsdean area
Ramsdean is situated in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the foot of the South Downs (soon to become part of the South Downs Nationa Park) and is perfect for walks and cycle rides. The pretty and historic town of Petersfield is just 3 miles away and offers lots of restaurants and cafes and local shops as well as supermarkets. Petersfield also offers a Heath with a boating lake, a pay and play golf course, an outdoor swimming pool and the Taro Leisure centre with pools, gym etc.

Approximately 25 miles south of Guildford take the Winchester turn off (also marked Petersfield Industrial Estate). Turn right at the round about onto the A272 towards Winchester.
In the next village of Stroud, turn left immediately after the Seven Stars Pub into Ramsdean Road.
Follow this road for 1.25 miles to Ramsdean Green and turn right. You will immediately see a white house on the right, this is Homelands Farm. Take second entrance to back door to collect keys for cottages.
FROM M27 (SOUTH)
This route is suitable from Chichester and the east coast and Portsmouth.
From the M27, take the A3 North towards Petersfield. Take the Winchester turn off and go left onto the A272. Then follow directions as above.

We booked both cottages to accommodate family members flying in from overseas. Crim Cottage was perfect for us with two kids aged 9 and 11. The cottage is spacious, well laid out and very well equipped. The location was ideal, close enough to Petersfield for shopping but in a tranquil country location. The local pubs are fantastic, views from the cottages wonderful and local walks great. Graham and Debbie proved to be terrific hosts and we hope to return again on another visit. Cannot recommend highly enough. |

Good spacious warm cottage with plenty of space for 4, all modern appliances and quality comfortable furnishings. 2 bathrooms (one ensuite) a great asset when party is more than 2. A very quiet country location but within easy driving distance of amenities of Petersfield. The only thing that I can think of is that when you spend a considerable amount of money on a property the small price of providing a reasonable welcoming pack would go a long way to improving further the guest ratings. A pint of milk, a handful of teabags & coffee was not that welcoming when you have driven nearly 350 miles and then have to go out shopping (or find somewhere to eat). Recent properties we have visited (nearly half the price) have provided cakes, local biscuits, cheese & wine etc. etc. |
