"Fab Cottage in a Great Location"

We have been coming to the Enchante Normandie for 3 years now, firstly with my wife and son, and then with Grandparents, and can honestly say that it is one of the nicest places we have found to visit; both in terms of the area and the cottage itself - we have already booked 2 weeks for 2013.

The cottage is a mile or so outside of Gathemo, surrounded by farmland and set amongst a few other small cottages (some rented out) and pretty much away from any noise and populated areas. Therefore it is a totally idyllic place to stay. However, there are loads of nice walks from the cottage into the surrounding countryside, and plenty of horses and wildlife to keep you interested. Gathemo is a quick drive / ride / walk away and has a small store and bakery - great for fresh baguettes every day.

The biggest town nearby is Vire which is a 10 minute drive down the road, and you will find all the necessary supermarkets and other shops, including a great market on a Friday (visit the sausage vendor in the car park - he cooks hundreds and serves them in fresh baguettes!).

Further afield, the cottage is located in a great place, and is central whether you are travelling north, south, east or west to the main "touristy type" areas.

The cottage itself is lovely with three good sized bedrooms (six is an easy number to get in there), a well equipped kitchen and nice bathroom / shower area. The living room is really spacious and has a great log burner fire (with enough firewood in the shed to see you through many winters!) which keeps the whole place warm, however, it could benefit from a larger TV (42" flat screen would be nice!!) although Sky is provided. However, the star attraction is the garden area which is huge with a big decked area and adjacent lawn - big enough to play football, badminton and other sports - we were even practising our golf chipping from once side to the other. In the summer, the garden is always full of flowers and there is a barbeque in the shed. Parking is also easy in the gated off driveway.

Every time we have arrived, we have always found wine, butter and bread waiting for us and all of the rooms made up with linen / bedding plus towels. The caretaker lives in one of the nearby cottages, are are there when you need them, but otherwise stay out of the way, which is nice when you want a bit of peace and solitude. Rate for staying are really reasonable and Helen, the owner, is extremely pleasant when booking and confirming.

Downsides - not many that we have found, apart from the obvious missing 42" Flatscreen TV :-). There can tend to be a lot of flies around, but that is normal for this part of the Country in the summer. Also because it is quite an old cottage and open plan with creaky flooring, it can be a bit noisy if someone is up in the night - something to bear in mind if you are a light sleeper.

Basically, we can't recommend this cottage enough for all types of stay - as a base for exploring or walking / cycling trips or just to get some peace and relaxation, and it should appeal to families or couples alike; however, if you want to be a bit more in the thick of things with bars / restaurants close by, then this is possibly not the place for you.

I would definately say to give it a try.
