About the home
Close to the market towns of Mirambeau, Montendre and Jonzac, the pretty fishing ports of the Gironde estuary, and the superb beaches up the coast to Royan and beyond, the gites are excellently placed for a great holiday in the Charente – Maritime. Bordeaux, St Emilion, Cognac, Saintes, Pons, Rochefort and La Rochelle are all easily within 1 hours drive. La Dominique has 3 bedrooms (1 with en suite), open plan kitchen/living room, spacious shower room and is fully self contained with a private covered patio with BBQ. As well as the heated pool other facilities in the large garden include a brand new 14ft trampoline with nets, swings, tee pee and in the open barn a new ping pong table.
The Charente-Maritime area of France has an abundance of things to do and see. Whether you want an action packed holiday or just to take in the beautiful sites (smells and tastes!) we have it all.

La Dominique has 3 bedrooms. Downstairs there is a double bedroom with en suite shower room and upstairs there are two twin bedrooms. All bedlinen and bathroom towels are provided during your stay (pool/beach towels are not provided).
There is another spacious shower room situated downstairs, this contains a large shower cubicle, wash basin and toilet. We provide a large baby bath that fits into the cubicle for little ones that can't/don't like to shower.
The open plan living room/kitchen contains everything you would need to make your stay comfortable. We have included a dvd player with a huge selection of dvds available for you to use. There is also a selection of books and children's games/puzzles.
The kitchen is fully equipped with cooker, microwave, fridge freezer, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, grill, iron and ironing board and all the normal crockery and cutlery you are likely to need. Outside there is a private covered patio area with table and chairs for 6 and a large stone bbq. The table extends to seat 10 if you happen to rent both gites and want to dine together.
A washing machine is available in the courtyard which is shared by both gites.
We have young children ourselves so know what is needed for your stay, therefore we provide everything you may need, so you can pack less and relax more.

The gite has direct access to the heated pool and garden. The pool measures approximately 11m x 5.5m.
The pool is heated from the beginning of April to the end of October each year. We try to keep it at a very comfortable 28/29oc which means you are able to swim everyday. The pool has a shallow and deep end and has a gently shelving slope all the way round. It is fitted with a safety alarm which complies with French safety standards and as of March 2012 a fence will be added to provide extra safety for smaller children.
In the large garden you will find a brand new 14ft trampoline with nets (the kids love it), along with swings, and other play toys. There is also various bat and ball games, skipping ropes and a boule set - there is certainly plenty of room to run around.

The gite can be rented independently or both together (ideal for a large group or two families holidaying together)
During peak season rentals are a minimum of 1 week and are Saturday to Saturday. However, at other times of the year we can be more flexible with changeover days and are able to offer short breaks (minimum 2 nights)
Conditions
Bedlinen, bath towels (not pool/beach), electricity and gas is included in the rental. Also available for our very young guests are stairgates, potties, toilet seats, steriliser, baby bjorn bouncy chair, playmat, cot (with mobile if needed), highchair, baby bath, baby activity seat and playpen.
A welcome pack is included for our guests staying a week or more, offering freshly baked bread, milk from the local farmers, cheese, orange juice, fresh eggs from the neighbouring chickens, wine from the local vineyard, butter, homemade jam and fresh fruit from our trees (subject to season). If travelling with children we will add some kids treats!
The gites are available from 4.00 pm on your day of arrival and must be vacated by 10.00 am on the day of departure. The gites are fully cleaned at the end of your stay at no extra charge, and we do ask that you leave the gite in the same condition you found it.
Please note that we cannot take bookings between 1st November 2011 and 31st March 2012 due to refurbishments taking place.
The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region
The Charente-Maritime is renowned for its sunny climate (affected by the Gulf Stream, meaning that it is much warmer than many places of the same latitude). It enjoys long summers and mild winters (normally great weather from April-October), making it a perfect destination to enjoy splendid beaches, historic towns, Roman ruins and lets not forget the amazing vineyards set amongst breathtaking countryside.
There are too many lovely places too list that are worth a visit, and most only within 30 minutes of the gites. Saintes (30 minutes) has a Roman amphitheatre, Jonzac (15 minutes) a 15th century chateau, a swimming lake/beach, and Pons with its pretty Medieval streets (25 minutes) to name only 3. 45 minutes away, Cognac, on the River Charente, is the home of the distillieries of all brands of Cognac and tours are available to discover how the brew is made. Then there are the gorgeous beaches. Meschers is very child friendly and Royan is a lovely seaside town with great beaches. You can walk along the vast expanse of sand or just sit in a street cafe and watch the activity. Many boats are moored here and tours are available along the Gironde Estuary or you can take a ferry across to the Medoc area with all the wonderful chateaux. There are many other places within an easy 1 hour drive, Bordeaux , Arcachon, St Emilion, Rochfort, La Rochelle and its' surrounding islands, to name but a few. A location with something for everyone.
The Soubran area
The gites are situated 1.5km from the village of Soubran and are surrounded by grapevines, and woodland. There are many great walks right on the doorstep and there is even a small fishing lake within 5 minutes walk. Soubran itself has a baker, bar/tabac/restaurant, post office, library, school and a small nature reserve. The market town of Mirambeau is 7 km away and has a supermarket, several shops, a couple of bars and restaurants and a lovely chateau which is a 4 star hotel and restaurant. Within a 30 minute drive from the gites are several other pretty towns well worth a visit including JONZAC with its beautiful chateau, activity lake and famous thermal spa, the old roman town of SAINTES with many historical sites, PONS with its medieval donjon and MONTENDRE and MONTGUYON with their castles.

La Dominique and La Fleur are very easy to get to being just 10 minutes from the A10 motorway and approximately 1 hour from the nearest airports. If you are coming by car we are approximately 7.5 hours drive from Calais or the channel tunnel, 6 hours drive from La Harve or Cherbourg and 5 hours drive from Caen. The nearest airport is actually Bordeaux (55 minutes), followed closely by La Rochelle (65 minutes). Other airports nearby are Poitiers (90 minutes), Tours (150 minutes), Limoges (120 minutes)and Bergerac (140 minutes), Nantes (140 minutes)

What a fabulous holiday we had here. Firstly our hosts Rae and J.C couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome - from a very generous welcome pack inc eggs and milk from local farm to buying cycle maps of the area, booking restaurants, delivering bread to our door... The property is beautiful and has everything you might need inc lots of toys and games for kids. Pool is spotless and kept at a very pleasant temp.and there are plenty of things to keep kids amused eg, trampoline, table tennis, swings. The location is lovely and quiet with rolling hills. Very picturesque but quite remote and you really need a car to get anywhere but within 1 hour are lots of places to visit eg. beaches, Cognac, Bordeaux, etc Great gite hoilday. Hope to be visiting again next year! |

An excellent Gite, with good quality (mostly new) english style furniture - very comfy beds, and spotlessly clean throughout. Although small /bijou - very well equipped in the kitchen, lots of games and books to borrow. The pool was fab - heated - and we spent almost every waking minute around the pool (new) patio beds and lots of pool toys for the kids (big and small). The downstairs bedroom was very useful for someone with disabilities or older - the bedrooms are accessed by a wooden stairway that we got use too very quickly. Although the area was quiet, it's in easy reach of Royan (1 hr) with miles of clean beaches and nice eateries. Mirranbeau and Montrondre have very good supermarkets and there was a local market almost every day. Palosite (10 euros per adult) was a fab day out (learnt to throw spears and make fire, with a good restaurant (14 euros for main and sweet) with a good attempt to accommodate english visitors - even our small dog was welcome to join all presentations. The lake at Montrondre was also a good (free) day out - with a dedicated swimming area for children - but also opportunities for our little dog to swim and splash about - they also had a cafe / restaurant - main courses (big enough for men) for 6 - 8 euros. The whole family had a brilliant time at La Dominique and would love to return. |

Rae and JC are delightful people who not only provide a lovely gite but combine it with a perfect attitude. They are not intrusive but help whenever they can, even down to booking local restaurants. They have big plans to upgrade the gites but they are already very well equipped and extremely comfortable. The pool and gardens are magnificent and well maintained and the location is perfect to either relax or explore |

Rae and JC are the perfect hosts and made us feel really at home. The gite is beautiful and the pool and gardens are incredible. Having literally had to book last minute due to adversity we couldn't have been happier with our choice. From the minute we got here Rae and JC did everything they could for us down to booking local restaurants and giving us fresh fruit from their garden.
