La Maison Bleue
About the home
La Dominique and La Fleur are 2 wonderfully converted stone barns, renovated and equipped to a high standard and perfect for 2 groups wanting to holiday together but have privacy when needed.
Each gite sleeps 6 (note that La Fleur has a sofa bed downstairs) and has everything you would need for a fantastic holiday in the lovely Charente-Maritime region. Both gites have direct access to the heated swimming pool and full use of a large garden which includes a brand new 14ft trampoline, badminton nets, swings, boule and a new ping pong table in the open barn. Renting both gites gives you the opportunity to holiday with friends or family but has more benefits than renting a villa as you each have your own privacy and owners nearby to cater to your needs. The pool is cleaned daily and every morning we make a trip to the bakery meaning you can have fresh bread and croissants delivered to your patio each morning if desired, we just bill you at the end of your stay.....
There is so much to see and do in the local area. Bordeaux, Saint Emillion. Cognac, Saintes, Royan, Rochefort and La Rochelle are all within 1 hour’s drive. Closer you can find the superb beaches of Meschers, St George de Didonne and Royan, swimming lakes, fishing lakes, historic towns and chateau, the list is endless. But if all you want to do is relax we can certainly help out there.
We have new wooden pool loungers with very comfortable mattresses, pool toys for the kids to keep them entertained and floating rings for the really young)! We have young children ourselves so know what is needed for a relaxing holiday with kids, also, we are 'Tots to Travel' approved, you can find us on their site under 'Gites De Touron'.

Further details outdoors:
The gites have direct access to the heated pool and garden. The pool measures approximately 11m x 5.5m.
The pool is heated from the beginning of April to the end of October each year. We try to keep it at a very comfortable 28/29oc which means you are able to swim every day. The pool has a shallow and deep end and has a gently shelving slope all the way round. It is fitted with a safety alarm which complies with French safety standards (by March 2012 a new gated fence will be fitted for extra safety for our younger guests).
In the large garden you will find a brand new 14ft trampoline with nets (the kids love it), along with swings, and other play toys plus new ping pong table in the open barn. There is also various bat and ball games, skipping ropes and a boule set - there is certainly plenty of room to run around.
Further details
Bedlinen, bath towels (not pool/beach), electricity and gas is included in the rental. Also available for our very young guests are stairgates, potties, toilet seats, steriliser, baby bjorn bouncy chair, playmat, cot (with mobile if needed), highchair, baby bath, baby activity seat.
A welcome pack is included for guests, offering freshly baked bread, milk from the local farmers, cheese, orange juice, fresh eggs from the neighbouring chickens, wine, butter, jam and fresh fruit from our trees (subject to season). If travelling with children we will add some kids treats!
The gites are available from 4.00 pm on your day of arrival and must be vacated by 10.00 am on the day of departure. The gites are fully cleaned at the end of your stay at no extra charge, and we do ask that you try and leave the gite in the same condition you found it.

BookThe Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region
The Charente-Maritime is renowned for its sunny climate (affected by the Gulf Stream, meaning that it is much warmer than many places of the same latitude). It enjoys long summers and mild winters (normally great weather from April-October), making it a perfect destination to enjoy splendid beaches, historic towns, Roman ruins and lets not forget the amazing vineyards set amongst breathtaking countryside.
There are too many lovely places too list that are worth a visit, and most only within 30 minutes of the gites. Saintes (30 minutes) has a Roman amphitheatre, Jonzac (15 minutes) a 15th century chateau, a swimming lake/beach, and Pons with its pretty Medieval streets (25 minutes) to name only 3. 45 minutes away, Cognac, on the River Charente, is the home of the distillieries of all brands of Cognac and tours are available to discover how the brew is made. Then there are the gorgeous beaches. Meschers is very child friendly and Royan is a lovely seaside town with great beaches. You can walk along the vast expanse of sand or just sit in a street cafe and watch the activity. Many boats are moored here and tours are available along the Gironde Estuary or you can take a ferry across to the Medoc area with all the wonderful chateaux. There are many other places within an easy 1 hour drive, Bordeaux , Arcachon, St Emilion, Rochfort, La Rochelle and its' surrounding islands, to name but a few. A location with something for everyone.
The Soubran area
The gites are situated 1.5km from the village of Soubran and are surrounded by grapevines, and woodland. There are many great walks right on the doorstep and there is even a small fishing lake within 5 minutes walk. Soubran itself has a baker, bar/tabac/restaurant, post office, library, school and a small nature reserve. The market town of Mirambeau is 7 km away and has a supermarket, several shops, a couple of bars and restaurants and a lovely chateau which is a 4 star hotel and restaurant. Within a 30 minute drive from the gites are several other pretty towns well worth a visit including JONZAC with its beautiful chateau, activity lake and famous thermal spa, the old roman town of SAINTES with many historical sites, PONS with its medieval donjon and MONTENDRE and MONTGUYON with their castles.

We stayed here mid-May of 2012 and would definitely stay again! We had a wonderful relaxing stay. Rae and JC are very warm and welcoming and very helpful, which made the stay even easier. The gite is beautiful and as described. The garden and pool area are fantastic and child friendly but this would also be a great place to go without kids if you fancy a quiet chilled holiday. Rae did a supermarket shop for baby essentials such as nappies an wipes so that we didn't have to bring these with us and the welcome hamper was a lovely touch. The delivery of fresh pastries (highly recommend the pain au raisin!) and fresh bread each morning was such a luxury was also a lovely thoughtful touch. The surrounding area is lovely and the beach at Mescheres was absolutely stunning, with a great restaurant right on the sand. There was only 2 things which could have been a bit better. The first was the flagstone floors are very hard for toddling (or attempting to toddle!) small people and although there was a rug, it was woven and also quite hard. (obviously I do not expect Rae and JC to change the floor but when we return I would take a play mat as we ended up putting our beach towels on the floor!) The second thing is there was not a great stock of cupboard items which you may expect in a self-catering accomodation (cooking oil, bin bags, flour etc). However, the beautiful welcome hamper you receive on arrival with lots of local goodies including fresh bread, local eggs and milk, cheese, pate and jam, not to mention lovely local wines, more than makes up for this. Also, I am sure this will improve over time as more guests stay there and buy things which they leave at the end of their stay, as we did. Highly recommend, great for families with young or older children or couples. Response: Thank you so much for a lovely review. The only reason I take out items left from previous guests like jams/flour/oils, is because some people find it unpleasant using other peoples leftovers. I do include a starter kit of washing machine tablets, binliner, loo roll, washing up liquid and cleaners, however, in the future I will leave other essentials like you suggested as I know that I would rather have it there too! |
