The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
Long a favourite destination, the Costa del Sol offers clean beaches and unbeatable sunshine. Torremolinos attracts a younger crowd, with sweeping beaches, shopping centres and thriving discos. Fuengirola is more family-friendly. There are plenty of watersports on offer, and pedal-boats for the family to enjoy.
Sotogrande / San Roque Club Resort area
San Roque has many activities to offer someone seeking a perfect holiday. For the golfing enthusiast, there are two world-class golf courses in San Roque, and just a few minutes from the apartment you will find the Seve Ballasteros School of Golf and Driving Range. Furthermore, the courses at Valderrama, Sotogrande and Alcadaisa are within easy reach, just ten minutes away by car.
If beachside relaxation is what you are looking for, ten minutes in the car will take you to the unspoilt beach at Alcadaisa, where there are several excellent restaurants right on the sea front. Slightly further afield is Sotogrande beach and marina, fifteen minutes from the apartment. The marina is the place to go for sailing and fishing expeditions, while the area around Tarifa has some stunning beaches which are perfect for windsurfing.
Horse riding is another activity you could try, with the San Roque Resort's very own equestrian centre, which caters for all levels of riding ability. If you've always fancied learning to ride, this would be the perfect opportunity to give it a go. For those who prefer to wathc, there is the Asprey Cup, held at the San Roque resort each August, which is a week of show jumping.
Drive to: Pueblo Nuevo (10mins drive) for supermarket, bars, restaurants, shops, bank, chemist. La Alcaidesa Beach (10 mins drive). Lovely beach with beach restaurants Sotogrande (10mins drive) for bars, restaurants, marina, beaches, water sports. Gibraltar (20mins drive) Puerto Banus / Marbella (30/40 mins drive) for excellent shopping, bars, restaurants, beaches, marina and a lively nightlife.
How to get there
The resort is easy to reach by car from either Gibraltar (a 20 minute drive) or Malaga (one hour away). You can also fly to Seville, Cadiz or Jerez airports, which are all around two hours from the property.
A number of airlines fly to Gibraltar and owing to its small size it is easy to find your way around. Car hire is available at the airport, but it is only 200 metres from the Spanish border and walking into Spain to hire a car there would avoid the sometimes long delays at border control. The property is just 15 minutes' drive from the airport.
You can fly to Malaga cheaply at any time of year with a number of airlines including BA, Iberia, Monarch, FlyGlobespan and Air Scotland. Again, car hire is available but it is advisable to book in advance, as this will give you greater choice of car and better rates. The apartment is one hour from Malaga airport; note that as there is a toll road, you will need around 15 Euros to use it.
