The Campania region
The unique archaeological heritage we can admire today in Campania is the result of centuries and centuries of foreign peoples ruling over this region and influencing its arts and civilization. From the temples of the age of the Magna Graecia and the buried towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, to the masterpieces kept in the several museums and churches of the region, and the archaeologial excavations of prehistoric sites. Campania is a must if you want to find out about the development of human history and civilization.
Campania has always delighted the palate of its visitors offering a wide range of delicate wines for all pockets and typical, delicious dishes. The endless fantasy of its inhabitanst has allowed magic combinations of the fruits of the sea with the fruits of the land originating recipes which have become famous all over the world. Campania is the home of pizza, mozzarella, lemons, and coffee: a real ritual for a worthy end of a meal.
Well equipped beach facilities and uncontaminated bays will welcome visitors looking for relax and crystal-clear water. The islands of the Gulf of Naples, the Amalfi coast, the domitian littoral and Cilento represent only a few of the hundreds of kilometres of coast that Campania offers its visitors. If you are looking for a new way to live and enjoy this marvellous sea (whose clearness has earned “blue flags” – certifications given by authorities for unpolluted waters) you cannot miss an underwater archaeological tour.
Massa Lubrense area
Sorrento, how many definitions have been ascribed to this locality, one of the most well-known international tourist sights.
Sorrento, native city of the poet Torquato Tasso, who was born here in 1544; kind Sorrento; Sorrento: land of colours; Sorrento: land of the Mermaids; Sorrento, the city of the orange and lemon groves, etc.
Each one of these definitions contains the truth because Sorrento is indeed a very pretty little city where kindness and hospitality are a combination that is handed down from one generation to the next. Sorrento, not to be rhetorical, is indeed the land of colours: brilliant or delicate hues depending on the change of the seasons. If you just pause a moment to observe how emotional a sunset can be when you gaze in the direction of Punta del Capo, of Ischia or Procida, the outlines of which can be seen clearly, you will be amazed by the variety of colours and the beauty of the scene. Or look, preferably from the sea, towards the majestic ridge of tuff rock that changes colour at every hour of the day.
