Magnolia House holiday house is situated in the famous town S’Agata “sui due Golfi” , a little touristic centre located between the Golf of Naples and the Golf of Salerno. Magnolia House is located at 300 meters from the centre of S’Agata “sui due Golfi” and also at a 100 meters you can find shops and restaurants where you can enjoy a nice espresso and local pizza. In the centre of S’Agata there is the bus stop that leaves for Sorrento and also for Marina del Cantone and Positano : two beach locations.
Tourists can find international very well known restaurants such as the “Don Alfonso” which dates back to 1890. There you can taste wine and typical olive oil. The weather is very mild during the year and the summer nights are cool and refreshing. The location is ideal for hiking lovers considering that Massa Lubrense and the entire Peninsula of Sorrento offer lovely walking excursions.

The Campania region
The marvellous natural scenery makes the Sorrentine Peninsula one of the most famous tourist destinations in Italy. Protruding into the Tyrrhenian Sea, almost touching the island of Capri, it extends from Castellamare di Stabia to Punta Campanella, watershed between the gulfs of Naples and Salerno. Art and tradition characterise the numerous towns, the most famous of which is Sorrento: perched on an imposing cliff over the sea, this charming town holds on to its medieval and classical memories, while also preserving Renaissance and Baroque architecture.
In this very famous area there is no lack of ‘wellness tourism’, like the thermal baths at Vico Equense, one of the most picturesque towns of the coast. But the great attraction of this land is in its natural beauty: the coastal road is one of the marvels of Italian scenery. Citrus groves, vineyards and olive groves that softly pour down the slopes towards the sea, the road follows the tortuous coastline, where curve after curve opens up incredible views of the Gulf of Naples, Vesuvius and Capri. The coast is high, craggy and rocky, with sheer limestone cliffs that crumble into the sea, coves and rocky shores.
S’Agata is situated only 3Km from Massa Lubrense, 6Km from Marina del Cantone(15minutes with the car or bus), 9Km from Sorrento (15min), 14Km from Positano(25min), 30Km from Amalfi(50min) and 50Km from Naples(60min). From Sorrento you can catch a speed hydrofoil or ferry for the islands of Capri and Ischia and Naples; boats and buses for Positano and Amalfi, trains for Naples, Pompei, Herculaneum, Paestum as well.
Sorrento area
Castellamare di Stabia is famous for its shipyards and its thermal spa establishments. The name comes from a medieval castle (castrum ad mare) to which the place-name Stabiae (destroyed in the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD together with Pompeii and Herculaneum) was added. The archaeological xcavations here have uncovered ancient structures: the necropolis of the Madonna delle Grazie and numerous Roman buildings, two of which are open to the public, Villa San Marco and Villa Arianna. Vico Equense, famous for its thermal baths and for “pizza by the meter”, also preserves numerous traces of the past: the Annunziata Church, the only gothic church on the Peninsula, Castello Giusso, founded by the Angevins and restructured at various different times between the 1600’s and 1800’s, and the interesting Antiquarium, where the relics of an archaeological burial site from 7th-5th century BC are exhibited. From Vico Equense the road becomes tortuous, following the sinuous slopes of Mount Lattari. From Piano di Sorrento, a natural terrace of tuff rock, Sorrento can be admired from afar, and, behind Punta del Capo the rofile Capri is visible. Piano di Sorrento gradually slopes down towards the sea and enjoys mild temperatures even in the summer. The road follows down all the way to Meta, a holiday swimming area with the lovely beaches of Marina di Meta and Alimuri. In the historic centre of town is the noted Santa Maria del Lauro Basilica.
Soon after is Sorrento itself, the most famous place on the coast. The city sits high above the sea on an imposing tuff outcrop with deep gorges. The houses are immersed in luxuriant green and surrounded by groves of olive, lemon and orange trees. The whole is framed by the high reliefs of the Sorrentine Peninsula. Sorrento is a tranquil place, to be enjoyed in all seasons for its mild climate, the perfume of its gardens and the panoramic terraces that give onto the sea. The town became famous in the 1800’s, but its history has much deeper roots. The name Surrentum is possibly tied to the legend of the siren and theories of a Phoenician foundation are entertained. What is certain is that in Roman times it was the favourite dwelling of the aristocracy. The town centre is piazza Tasso, which takes its name from the author of “Jerusalem Delivered”, born in Sorrento in 1544. The Cathedral dates to the 15th century, and has seen many restructurings over the ages. The Choir is made of refined inlaid wood, a traditional craft the city excels in. The Correale di Terranova Museum houses the relics of the past in the 1600’s home of the Correali, “the most beautiful provincial museum of Italy”, according to Amedeo Maiuri. The archaeological section is important, with its famous Base of Augustus, as is the medieval section with marble works of the 10th and 11th century. The collection of furniture, porcelain and paintings is vast. The San Francesco Church is from the 1700’s, and from there you can get to the Villa Comunale, a public garden on the edge of a sheer cliff that offers spectacular views. From the Villa a paved road takes you to the Marina Piccola, which has numerous bathing establishments and a port from which the boats for Capri and Naples leave. The biggest beach is Marina Grande, traditional destination of Sorrentine strolls.
After Punta del Capo, where the ruins of Villa of Pollio Felice (1st century BC, known as the Baths of the Regina Giovanna) face the sea, is Massa Lubrense, a popular and panoramic health resort. The town is less well known than others on the Peninsula and therefore not as affected by mass tourism. Thanks to this, it retains its secluded nature and preserves flavours and that special feeling lost in other places, like the old farm buildings. Close by is Marina della Lobra, a fishing village with its houses built on the beach and at the little port. Around Massa Lubrense there are many charming little villages: Termini, Nerano, a town halfway up the shore with houses and terraces that come down towards the sea, and the vast and beautiful Marina del Cantone. From Massa you can continue to the far extreme of the Sorrentine Peninsula, in front of Capri: Punta Campanella. In antiquity this place was sacred: perhaps it was here that the Greek temple dedicated to the sirens, so written about by the ancient authors, surged. In the Classic Era the temple was dedicated to Athena, the Romans then built a road that led to it from Sorrento. Some of the old stoneslab paved stretches re still visible as one nears the Punta. The tower-lighthouse, built in 1335 and rebuilt in 1566, signalled the arrival of pirates with the sounding of a bell, hence the name of the Point: Campanella means bell. Here one discovers the wilder and more enchanted face of the coast. One can explore this fascinating natural environment following a trail that reaches the evocative Bay of Ieranto, a rocky cove at the feet of Mount San Costanzo, today the property of the FAI (Italian Environmental Foundation) who insures its environmental integrity.
From Massa Lubrense one can go up to Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi (Saint Agatha of the Two Gulfs), in a magnificent panoramic position over the gulfs of Naples and of Salerno, and reach the ancient 18th century carmelite hermitage called Deserto (desert).
Famous travellers: I remember well the place and the moment when the car that was taking me on the road that goes to Sorrento towards Sant’Agata crossed the backbone of the sorrentine peninsula when suddenly the other sea appeared, the Gulf of Sorrento, and the little Sirenuse islands, and all the scenery around me was suddenly arid, naked and wild, without a tree, without a house, and in front of me there was only a series of curves on the edge of the cliff over the water, far below me, and the little street that courageously ventured between curtains of rock that skirted one abyss after the other. Raffaele La Capria, 1992.
How to get there
Sorrento has a strategic position which allows it to be easily reached either by car, train, bus, or by sea. Travelling by car, driving along the motorway A 2 Rome-Naples for those who come from the north, or the A 16 Bari-Naples for those who come from the south, you get onto the A 3. Exiting at Castellammare of Stabia, you arrive to the SS Sorrentine 145 - that travelling alongside the sea - permits you to reach Sorrento. The SS 145 offers an extraordinary spectacle, and as you pass by the towns of Seiano, Meta, Piano of Sorrento and Saint Agnello, you can admire on the right, the sea that gently wets the coast, the beaches and the small fisherman piers; and on the left, the white rocks that - between Seiano and Meta - capture and reflect the rays of the sun transforming them into enchanting shades. For people travelling by public transportation, there are various possibilities. If you arrive in Naples with the trains of the State railway (FS), the Central Station of Garibaldi Square is connected by underground passageways to the lines of the Circumvesuviana, which link directly Naples and Sorrento. The trains depart every 30 minutes, and in a little more than an hour, you arrive in Sorrento. The updated timetables can be consulted on the site www.vesuviana.it. People who arrive in Naples by plane have the possibility of using the daily bus connections, effected by the Curreri bus service. Every day, in fact, six trips are foreseen which connect Sorrento (Tasso Square) with the Capodichino Airport (Naples). For people who want to reach Sorrento from Rome - avoiding the use of the trains - there is the possibility to take advantage of a bus which effects two daily trips and that in four hours, link directly, Rome (departure from Tiburtina station) and Sorrento (Tasso Square). Sorrento can be easily reached also by sea, thanks to the hydrofoils that connect the Beverello Pier (Naples, opposite the Maschio Angioino) with the Harbour of Marina Piccola (small seashore) in Sorrento. Upon arrival at the Sorrento Harbour you will find the yellow buses of the Circumvesuviana which connect the Harbour to Tasso Square in the centre of Sorrento; or if you prefer, you can have a relaxing walk that in 10 minutes, along a suggestive road with antique Roman paving and a long flight of stairs, leads you to Tasso Square.

Guestbook
Mr Dan Wooldridge, Berlin, Germany:
I've never stayed in a more tastefully decorated and comfortable accommodation than the Casa Annalisa / Magnolia House, located just up the hill from Sorrento in the charming village of Sant'Agata. Lucia and Francesco have done an exemplary job of creating the perfect vacation apartment. The location of the self-catering unit is perfect because the SITA bus stop is right across the street and the grocery market is only 300 meters away. An easy walk into the village gives you access to great restaurants and shops. The deposit was easy to make, since Lucia has a paypal account, meaning you can transfer the deposit to them from any currency. A welcome gift of coffee and pastry was a nice surprise, too. On departure, Lucia kindly took us to the port of Sorrento, saving us two bus rides. She also was very helpful in making reservations and a car/driver hire. We would definitely stay here again and heartily recommend it to others. Lucia and Francesco are the perfect hosts
Mrs Abby Boston, Wa, USA: We had an absolutely wonderful time at Magnolia House. We arrived late in the evening to a lovely bottle of wine, lemon desserts fresh flowers and vegetables from the garden. It was truly a home away from home and we were glad to come back to it after our daily day trips. It was roomy and comfortable and Lucia truly pays attention to the little details that made our stay memorable. We would never stay in a hotel when we could stay in a place like Magnolia House. We would love to come back and we would highly recommend it for it's beauty and convenient location. Thanks so much Lucia! Abby and Mark
Mrs Selma Pelzman, United States: I had thought it would be good, but it was absolutely great. The villa itself is lovely, well furnished, wonderful kitchen with everything you might want or need. The dishwasher was convenient and the washing machine was very good and even more convenient. The television is much bigger and better than the one I have in my living room. The living room is wonderful, as are the bedroom and even the huge closet. And the patio with its flowers and lounge chairs and swing, plus the area to hang wet laundry was fine. Even the approach from the street is lovely. But even more important--Lucia and her husband Franco were absolutely splendid. They went way beyond what one might hope to have as owners. thoughtfull, helpfull, enjoyable and caring, as well as fun to be with. Never intrusive but always available. I wish they lived next door to me here in Overland Park, Kansas. The only advice is to continue being the lovely poople you are.
Mrs Tessa Forbes, Woking, United Kingdom: MAGNOLIA HOUSE is simply beautiful! All our expectations were surpassed as Lucia, the very kind owner, showed us around from room to room. The spacious apartment was spotlessly clean, tastefully furnished and there was a feeling that great thought and care had been put into making it a special place for people to stay in.The patio and garden were absolutely delightful. Lucia didn't speak any English (and we had very little Italian!) but we mangaed to communicate very well. She was immensely kind and generous in many ways (including offering us gifts of home-grown produce and even home-cooked dishes). The location of the apartment was perfect, just a few minutes walk to a very good supermarket and a choice of excellent restaurants. Sant'Agata sui due Golfi was an excellent base from which to explore Sorrento, Pompei, Capri and the beautiful Amalfi Coast. Fabulous!
