The Campania region
Campania is a region celebrated for its climate, the fertility of the lands and the astonishingly beautiful landscapes. The territory is mostly gentle hills, apart from the Matese mountains bordering Molise and the rugged Irpinia area. The Vesuvius on the Gulf of Naples is one of the very few still active volcanoes in Europe. The two beautiful gulfs of Naples and Salerno with the Amalfi coast, separated by the Sorrento peninsula, are world famous for the high cliffs, sandy bays, grottoes and islands (Ischia, Procida, Capri), each view an enchanting postcard picture, and such a great experience for the senses, the feel of the air, the odours of the pine trees, lemons and oranges, that the ancients rightly called this region "felix ager", a happy land.
Sorrento / Sorrentine Peninsula area
We believe that Sorrento and Campania are alive with myth and legend! In centuries long past, mermaids reputedly lived on the Sorrento Peninsula, while sailors were lured onto the rocks by the evocative songs of the Sirens. That magic still survives today, so we're pleased to offer a full range of vacation villas to travelers looking to explore the enchanting world of Sorrento.
As if the colourful cliffs of Sorrento weren't enough, this region overlooks the Bay of Naples toward Mount Vesuvius (the active volcano that once buried the Roman city of Pompeii), Naples, and the islands of Iscia and Procida. Romantic and fascinating, the Sorrento Peninsula has a deeply felt beauty and a profound sense of history. Further south of the Neapolitan Riviera is the ancient Greek city of Paestum.
How to get there
Sorrento has a strategic position which allows it to be easily reached either by car, train, bus, or by sea. Travelling by car, driving along the motorway A 2 Rome-Naples for those who come from the north, or the A 16 Bari-Naples for those who come from the south, you get onto the A 3. Exiting at Castellammare of Stabia, you arrive to the SS Sorrentine 145 - that travelling alongside the sea - permits you to reach Sorrento.
For people travelling by public transportation, there are various possibilities. If you arrive in Naples with the trains of the State railway (FS), the Central Station of Garibaldi Square is connected by underground passageways to the lines of the Circumvesuviana, which link directly Naples and Sorrento. The trains depart every 30 minutes, and in a little more than an hour, you arrive in Sorrento. The updated timetables can be consulted on the site www.vesuviana.it.
People who arrive in Naples by plane have the possibility of using the daily bus connections, effected by the Curreri bus service. Every day, in fact, six trips are foreseen which connect Sorrento (Tasso Square) with the Capodichino Airport (Naples).
For people who want to reach Sorrento from Rome - avoiding the use of the trains - there is the possibility to take advantage of a bus which effects two daily trips and that in four hours, link directly, Rome (departure from Tiburtina station) and Sorrento (Tasso Square).
Sorrento can be easily reached also by sea, thanks to the hydrofoils that connect the Beverello Pier (Naples, opposite the Maschio Angioino) with the Harbour of Marina Piccola (small seashore) in Sorrento.
Upon arrival at the Sorrento Harbour you will find the yellow buses of the Circumvesuviana which connect the Harbour to Tasso Square in the centre of Sorrento; or if you prefer, you can have a relaxing walk that in 10 minutes, along a suggestive road with antique Roman paving and a long flight of stairs, leads you to Tasso Square.
