Home description

It is difficult to imagine to be a few km from Sorrento (km 10), Pompei (km 22) and the Amalfi coast (km 20) and at the same time away from crowds and traffic, but all doubts are washed away as you are approaching Astapiana Villa Giusso.

Suspended between sky and sea, this charming, 16th century, dwelling, once a monastery, so full of past reminders... but present, suggests to return in peace with oneself and others, throughout the contemplation of nature and the discovery of agricultural life.

In 1822, the property was bought by Luigi Giusso, duke of Galdo, the present owner’s ancestor. Now Erminia and Giovanna invite you to experience their hospitality and the beauty and fascination of this historical site. A welcome drink awaits for you on the stone terrace: from this point, the view is absolutely mesmerising: Ischia, The Vesuvius and the bay of Naples, against an amazing sunset.

The bedrooms are full of romance with original iron-beds and 18th century furnishings.

You may breakfast on fresh ricotta, fruits and home made cakes in the majestic kitchen with the original ceramic tiles and large fireplace. Dinner is also available on demand.

If you are looking for something different, Villa Giusso is the answer: don’t miss this unique and relaxing opportunity to travel back in time!

The Campania region

From Roman times our land is called “Campania Felix”, not only for the incomparable natural beauty of this region but also for its extraordinary suitability for agriculture.

Thanks to fertile soil, mild climate with Tyrrhenian breezes, the complex landscape, the plentiful water supply on the surface of the land within rich underground sources, our Campania felix has an incredible richness on tastes, colours, smells who become culture.

It is very important to keep and to protect the local vegetable heritage and the biodiversity. Without exaggerating we can talk about them as real “cultural assets”: these products have been recognized from the European Union and their names are Dop (denominazione di origine protetta) e Igp (Indicazione geografica protetta).

At Astapiana we produce:

~ melannurca campana (igp)- a special delicious red apple with an excellent flavour -,
~ noce di sorrento (igp)- a walnut with a kernel cream coloured, soft and crunchy with an extremely pleasant flavour and an unusual aroma and aftertaste -,
~ kaki napoletano (igp)- a persimmon with an excellent flavour, thanks to its high level of sugar -,
~ limone di Sorrento (igp)- a lemon with an intense aroma thanks to its considerable richness in essential oils -, ~ ~ pomodoro di Sorrento- a tomato with a light red colour and sweet delicate flavour -,
~ melanzana “cima di viola”- an aubergine with a tender flesh and particularly mild flavour -,
~ zucca lunga di Napoli- a pumpkin with a sweet aromatic flavour -,
~ broccolo “friariello” di Napoli- a special sprouting broccoli –,
~ mela limoncella– a special yellow apple with a light flavour of lemon -,
~ nocciola mortarella campana- an hazelnut with a nut ivory–white coloured, firm and decidedly aromatic.

How to get there

Where we are
On a hilltop between Sorrento and Amalfi coast.

Directions
1- Take motorway N.A3 NAPOLI-SALERNO. Be carefull!!! From Rome, there are two motorways going to Salerno : the first one N.A30 goes directly to Salerno and it isn’t good and the second one N.A3 goes to Sorrento and Salerno and it’s the good one. From the airport of Naples, instead you have to follow the indications for A3 motorway (to Castellammare -Salerno)

2- Exit at CASTELLAMARE DI STABIA
3- Follow the sign for SORRENTO
4- At SEIANO, immediately after the Moon Valley Hotel, turn left towards MONTE FAITO

5- Put to zero the speedometre. ATTENTION: don’t follow the GPS.
6- Continue towards AROLA; at 4,6 km (from the crossroad of Seiano), turn right towards PASSEGGIATE VICANE.

7- Follow the small road: you‘ll see the monastery wall, pass under a first stone archway, then turn left, pass a second stone archway and you’ll get in the park. The house is on the left.

Further details indoors:
Villa Giusso offers a retreat of relaxation and simplicity unlike any other. If you are looking for a peaceful and enthralling getaway, Villa Giusso is the answer.

There are six bedrooms and a nice self-catering dependence.

The bedrooms are in the main foresteria or in the monks’ abodes.

In the main foresteria, the bigger building, where in the past monks gave hospitality to travellers, the bedrooms are fascinating with original iron-beds and 18th century furnishings.

The monks’ abodes are the ancient cell, newly restored: the cell is like a cottage or little dependence and is composed by two double bedrooms each with bathroom. The bedrooms are charming and have a valuable modern advantage “the heating”. Here the guests have also a private garden at their disposal.

At your disposal, for weekly self-catering accommodation, the monks’ cell “Annunciata”. The “Annunciata” dependence is like a cottage, ideal solution for four people, with two charming bedrooms, one double and one twins, each with bathroom en suite, with a useful kitchenette, private garden.

Within the monastery, you can find some special rooms reserved for who require silence to work and concentrate: the “horses” hall and the reading room are available to host seminars, business meeting, workshops and small conventions of up to 50 people.

Further details outdoors:
For dolce farniente lovers, you could stop on the park, on the shadows of centennial oak trees or simply take a look around at the many wonderful amenities of the monastery... and relax on the incredible stone terrace overlooking the Bay of Naples, have a guided tour through the Monastery and at the Villa Giusso’s farm or walk in the countryside along the ring-walls, the “well-being pathway”, the naturalistic pathway.

At disposal of guests:
~ The first day after arrival: 5.00 p.m. guided tour through the Monastery and at the Villa Giusso’s farm;
~ On Tuesday and Thursday (or others days on demand): 10.30 a.m. guided tour to Villa Giusso’s farm and to the” spontaneous wild herbs” and the “little forgotten fruits” gardens
~ On Saturday evening: pizza preparation!
~ Walking in Astapiana: the well-being pathway, the naturalistic pathway, walking in the countryside along the ring-walls.
