The Campania region
SORRENTO: It is a much longed for by tourists from around the world. The best way to see this beatutiful town is to walk between the major shopping streets, the quaint old town and the narrow streets filled with specialty shops, stopping to savor a glass of Limoncello on a bench overlooking the sea. Culturally, you are simply spoiled for choice. In the main square, you can admire the statue of the patron saint, St. Antonino, and the monument to Torquato Tasso. In every corner of the city, there are churches to visit: the Cathedral, Dedicated to Sts. Philip and James, the Basilica of St. Antonino, whose sacristy contains a Neapolitan Crib from 700AD and a silver statue of the saint, the Cloister of St. Francis, which combines various architectural motifs from the late Gothic to Renaissance periods.
With its 42 kilometre stretch of gently sloping coastline and white pebbled-beaches, the Amalfi Coast is an 'earthly paradise' with breathtaking beauty.
AMALFI COAST: One of Italy's most spectacular coastlines begins after Sorrento, runs through Positano and continues until it reaches Amalfi. Looking along the tall cliffs and down into the sapphire sea, takes your breath away.
POSITANO: A vibrant village with narrow, colourful buildings which cascade like a waterfall down a vertiginous hill to the sea. Positano's town centre meanders down to the waterfront, where a profusion of cafes, bars and restaurants sell fresh seafood. The beach air is filled with the perfume of orange, almond blossom and jasmine.
AMALFI: Once the most important trading port in the southern Italy, Amalfi is in the ravine of the Mulini Valley, its churches, towers and arcaded houses rising above the small harbour. The town's Duomo dominates a long flight of steps and embraces a picturesque piazza stretching to its seafront. A wonderful contrast between fine beaches in front and tall cliffs behind.
CAPRI: Capri offers panormamic vistas at every turn, picturesque eateries with local seafood and blue grottos hidden under the limestone cliffs. A trip to Capri is ideal for a one-day excursion from Sorrento with the hydrofoil. Capri is, unquestionably, the holiday princess of the Italian islands: idyllic and rugged with its shimmering Blue Grotto and cliffs that descend down into the sea. Capri has trendy jewellery shops and designer boutiques.
POMPEII & VESUVIUS: Pompeii is one of the most important Roman archaeological sites in the world and Vesuvius is the only active volcano in Europe. Pompeii and Herculaneum are cities buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and re-discovered in the 18th century. It is possible to drive to 3,200 feet and then trek to its summit to enjoy the mesmerising views of the entire gulf of Naples.
Sorrento Coast - Vico Equense
Villa Furba is situated in a village called Arola, which is nestled in the hills of Sorrento Peninsula, near the town of Vico Equense. Villa Furba offers all guests the opportunity to make excursions, nature walks, boat trips, guided tours and is only a 20 minute trip to the beach. The villa can also provide a guided tour of the surrounding mountains, Mount Faito, (Path of the Gods) and arrange a BBQ.
For lovers of gourmet, there are local restaurants and wine bars nearby, which offer typical regional and national produce. Ticciano is connected by a road which leads to Sorrento and Vico Equense. It is also an ideal starting point for excursions to the famous Positano and the Amalfi Coast, Capri and the fascinating ruins of Pompeii.
Spend relaxing moments in the middle of nature and also live the 'real life' like people from the Sorrento peninsula, outside the usual tourist haunts ...
VICO EQUENSE: The coast of this town has a succession of beaches with crystal clear waters and it retains much of the past: the only Gothic church of the entire peninsula, the Church of the Annunciation, founded by the Anjou and the castle, called Castle Giusso. Particularly relevant is the Mineralogical Museum Campano, which displays over 3,500 specimens of 1,400 species of minerals from around the world and an interesting selection of fossils.
