The Campania region
The marvellous natural scenery makes the Sorrentine Peninsula one of the most famous tourist destinations in Italy. Protruding into the Tyrrhenian Sea, almost touching the island of Capri, it extends from Castellamare di Stabia to Punta Campanella, watershed between the gulfs of Naples and Salerno. Art and tradition characterise the numerous towns, the most famous of which is Sorrento: perched on an imposing cliff over the sea, this charming town holds on to its medieval and classical memories, while also preserving Renaissance and Baroque architecture.
S’Agata is situated only 3Km from Massa Lubrense, 6Km from Marina del Cantone(15minutes with the car or bus), 9Km from Sorrento (15min), 14Km from Positano(25min), 30Km from Amalfi(50min) and 50Km from Naples(60min). From Sorrento you can catch a speed hydrofoil or ferry for the islands of Capri and Ischia and Naples; boats and buses for Positano and Amalfi, trains for Naples, Pompei, Herculaneum, Paestum as well.
Sorrento, Campania area
Sorrento itself, the most famous place on the coast. The city sits high above the sea on an imposing tuff outcrop with deep gorges. The houses are immersed in luxuriant green and surrounded by groves of olive, lemon and orange trees. The whole is framed by the high reliefs of the Sorrentine Peninsula. Sorrento is a tranquil place, to be enjoyed in all seasons for its mild climate, the perfume of its gardens and the panoramic terraces that give onto the sea. The town became famous in the 1800’s, but its history has much deeper roots. The name Surrentum is possibly tied to the legend of the siren and theories of a Phoenician foundation are entertained. What is certain is that in Roman times it was the favourite dwelling of the aristocracy. The town centre is piazza Tasso, which takes its name from the author of “Jerusalem Delivered”, born in Sorrento in 1544. The Cathedral dates to the 15th century, and has seen many restructurings over the ages. The Choir is made of refined inlaid wood, a traditional craft the city excels in. The Correale di Terranova Museum houses the relics of the past in the 1600’s home of the Correali, “the most beautiful provincial museum of Italy”, according to Amedeo Maiuri. The archaeological section is important, with its famous Base of Augustus, as is the medieval section with marble works of the 10th and 11th century. The collection of furniture, porcelain and paintings is vast. The San Francesco Church is from the 1700’s, and from there you can get to the Villa Comunale, a public garden on the edge of a sheer cliff that offers spectacular views. From the Villa a paved road takes you to the Marina Piccola, which has numerous bathing establishments and a port from which the boats for Capri and Naples leave. The biggest beach is Marina Grande, traditional destination of Sorrentine strolls. Magnolia House is situated in Sant'Agata sui due Golfi, a small tourist centre situated between the Gulf of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno, on a hillside which sits above the world famous resort of Sorrento. Magnolia House is 300 meters away from the centre of Sant'Agata sui due Golfi; at a distance of about 100 meters there are shops and restaurants. In Sant'Agata sui due Golfi there is the bus stop of the SITA bus service which links all the towns along the coast, including Positano, Amalfi and Sorrento and the archaeological sites of Pompei and Herculaneum.
Tourists come to S.Agata sui due Golfi to admire the wonderful views of Sorrento and the Gulf of Naples, and the fabulous Amalfi coast. In S'Agata sui due Golfi tourists can also find good restaurants, good wine and olive oil, and fruit and vegetables grown on the nearby hills. The climate is mild all year round and the summer evenings are refreshed by the breeze that comes up from the sea.
Sant'Agata sui due Golfi is 6 kilometers away from Marina del Cantone (ten minutes by car or bus), 14 kilometers from Positano (20 minutes), 30 kilometers from Amalfi (40 minutes), 50 kilometers from Napoli (one hour) and 9 kilometers from Sorrento (15 minutes) from where it is possible to catch ferries and hydrofoils for Capri, Ischia, Positano and Naples, buses for Positano and Amalfi and trains for Naples, Pompei, Herculaneum and Paestum, etc. Sant'Agata sui due Golfi has an ideal geographical position for those who enjoy walking holidays and trecking. All around the Sorrento Peninsula, with it's rocky coastline high above the sea and little coves and inlets only reachable on foot or by the sea, there are signposted paths to enable you to really enjoy the walks and take some great photographs.

Guestbook for Magnolia House
A friend and I just returned from a wonderful week in Sat Agata at Lucia and Francesco's lovely apartment. We had an awesome time and Lucia was extremely helpful to us on everything...we even had access to the internet which was really helpful in looking for information about restaurants and local attractions...she also arranged for 2 wonderful boat trips which were the highlight of our stay..one to Capri and the other to Positano and Amalfi...I would highly recommend these tours by a local company in Nerano..they came and picked us up at the apartment and returned us there after the tour...
..the apartment was very spacious and really nicely decorated with Lucia's personal touch...not sterile dorm room fare that many of these apartments have...Lucia obviously took pride in creating a comfortable and homey atmosphere for her guests...
...the outside terrace was a wonderful place to have breakfast in the morning and dinner at night..it faces a beautifully kept garden and was a peaceful oasis at the end of a busy day of sightseeing...
..Lucia also has another apartment next door to Magnolia House which is adorable as well..
it was really nice to be in a peacful town like Sant Agata rather than in the busy city of Sorrento...however, Sorrento was easily accessible by local bus which saved the hassle of finding parking in the city...
all in all, we had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend this lovely apartment to one and all...Heather Laschinger and Elizabeth Webber Canada
Mrs Abby Boston, Wa, USA: We had an absolutely wonderful time at Magnolia House. We arrived late in the evening to a lovely bottle of wine, lemon desserts fresh flowers and vegetables from the garden. It was truly a home away from home and we were glad to come back to it after our daily day trips. It was roomy and comfortable and Lucia truly pays attention to the little details that made our stay memorable. We would never stay in a hotel when we could stay in a place like Magnolia House. We would love to come back and we would highly recommend it for it's beauty and convenient location. Thanks so much Lucia! Abby and Mark
Mrs Selma Pelzman, United States: I had thought it would be good, but it was absolutely great. The villa itself is lovely, well furnished, wonderful kitchen with everything you might want or need. The dishwasher was convenient and the washing machine was very good and even more convenient. The television is much bigger and better than the one I have in my living room. The living room is wonderful, as are the bedroom and even the huge closet. And the patio with its flowers and lounge chairs and swing, plus the area to hang wet laundry was fine. Even the approach from the street is lovely. But even more important--Lucia and her husband Franco were absolutely splendid. They went way beyond what one might hope to have as owners. thoughtfull, helpfull, enjoyable and caring, as well as fun to be with. Never intrusive but always available. I wish they lived next door to me here in Overland Park, Kansas. The only advice is to continue being the lovely poople you are.
Mrs Tessa Forbes, Woking, United Kingdom: MAGNOLIA HOUSE is simply beautiful! All our expectations were surpassed as Lucia, the very kind owner, showed us around from room to room. The spacious apartment was spotlessly clean, tastefully furnished and there was a feeling that great thought and care had been put into making it a special place for people to stay in.The patio and garden were absolutely delightful. Lucia didn't speak any English (and we had very little Italian!) but we mangaed to communicate very well. She was immensely kind and generous in many ways (including offering us gifts of home-grown produce and even home-cooked dishes). The location of the apartment was perfect, just a few minutes walk to a very good supermarket and a choice of excellent restaurants. Sant'Agata sui due Golfi was an excellent base from which to explore Sorrento, Pompei, Capri and the beautiful Amalfi Coast. Fabulous!
