Villa Selvaggia is a bright and sunny three-story villa built sheer above the sea. It sleeps eight people. From Villa Selvaggia you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the sea and of the small Li Galli islands. Villa Selvaggia is 250 square meters (2690 square feet). It features a private swimming pool, a wide private terrace with a view of the sea, a private garden, air conditioning (please read description below to check in which rooms the units are installed) and winter heating.

You will be roughly 4 km (2.5 miles) from Piano di Sorrento, where you will find shops and public transportation. You will find the closest restaurant at 3 km (roughly 1.9 miles), a grocery store at 1.5 km (roughly 1 mile), the stop for the local bus at 2 km (roughly 1.2 miles) and the closest beach at 4 km (roughly 2.5 miles). You will reach Villa Selvaggia from the main entrance of the building along a 100-meters (330-feet) private walkway that is cut into the rocky cliff and includes approximately 70 stairway steps.

To stay at Villa Selvaggia you will need a car. You will be able to park it on the premises.

Your dream to spend a holiday in a charming and unusual place, will come true at Villa Selvaggia.

Once arrived you will enter a patio, which was made out from terracing the mountainous coastline: you will face a large horizon of blue sea and, glancing down, you will find the rocky coast, covered by low-growing vegetation, that dives into the sea. On the side is the outline of a high cliff, sloping vertically down to the sea. There is also a path carved in this cliff which leads to Villa Selvaggia. A cableway installed on the patio will help you carrying your luggages up to the villa.

All along the path, you will notice small plots of land among the rocks, terraced gardens cultivated with olive trees and grape arbours. Succulent plants sprout from every crack of the rocks, and where the path gets narrow, you will admire small palms and red hibiscus, framing the blue of the sea.

Villa Selvaggia camouflages itself with the landscape: the building is set into the rock and includes old grottoes and ravines. Inside are some rocky walls. You will surely like and get enchanted by the furnishings, rich in ancient typical objects of this area.

The Villa offers charming spaces al-fresco: kitchen, wood-burning oven for pizza and barbecue placed under a patio and beside a large terrace, just perfect for your romantic dinners with moonlight on the sea! You might also book the work of an experienced and nice chef, in order to fully enjoy the local cuisine!

You will also have the opportunity to take part in a fun initiative, called "That's Sapore", arranged by the owners of Villa Selvaggia for you. Famous chefs from Campania, renowned wine experts, artisan producers of the tastiest Italian specialties will be there at your disposal. They will make you live an unforgettable gastronomic experience.

Next to the swimming pool is a shadowed dining room, made out from a natural grotto and equipped with sofas, tables and chairs, bar, big fridge with freezer, stereo with CD, MP3 and I-pod player. In the evening the music and striking lighting, the stars and the ship-lights on the sea, will wrap you in a romantic atmosphere.... a perfect place to organize parties and small receptions.

The last marvels at Villa Selvaggia is just there, at the end of the path dug into the rock. It is an isolated corner, and if you see it from the sea it seems to be reachable only by the gulls. You will find there a small terrace with a sofa, where to enjoy a magic peace and silence while admiring the sky and the sea....

The Campania region

Campania region is the beginning of the 'mezzogiorno'. Translating as the 'midday' the phrase evokes the sun-baked south. And Campania - with its ancient Greek and Roman towns, rumbling volcanoes and glittering blue coastline, at times evokes Classical Greece as much as modern Italy. You could be a million miles from bureaucratic and businesslike Milan.

Throughout much of its history Campania has been at the centre of Western Civilisation's most significant entities. The area was colonised by Ancient Greeks and was within Magna Græcia, until the Roman Republic began to dominate. During the Roman era the area was highly respected as a place of culture by the emperors, where it balanced Greco-Roman culture. The area had many duchies and principalities during the Middle Ages, in the hands of the Byzantine Empire and some Lombards.

It was under the Normans that the smaller independent states were brought together as part of a sizeable European kingdom, known as the Kingdom of Sicily, before the mainland broke away to form the Kingdom of Naples. It was during this period that especially elements of Spanish, French and Aragonese culture touched Campania. Later the area became the central part of the Two Sicilies under the Bourbons, until the Italian unification of 1860 when it became part of the new state Italy.

The capital city of Campania is Naples. Campania is rich in culture, especially in regards to gastronomy, music, architecture, archaeological and ancient sites such as Pompeii, Herculaneum and Paestum. The name of Campania itself is derived from Latin, as the Romans knew the region as Campania felix, which translates into English as "fortunate countryside". The rich natural sights of Campania make it highly important in the tourism industry, especially along the Amalfi Coast, Cilento Coast, Mount Vesuvius and the island of Capri.

Sorrento, Campania

Piano di Sorrento, historically known as “Planities” because of the flat area on which it is built, is located just next to Sorrento. Indeed, if you didn't know you would say that Sorrento and Piano are just one single town. The name of the village derives from the Latin planum (plain).

In the local dialect Piano di Sorrento is called Caruotte, from the Latin carottum (quarry), because of the many tuff pits.

According to the legend, during his trip from Palestine to Rome, St Peter disembarked at Crapolla and, after a gusty storm, preached his Gospel in a corner of the “Piano”. There is an old cross, sculpted in a 'piperno' stone (kind of lava, today used for paving) - lost and recently found again - as a seal of this event.

Until a couple of centuries ago, Piano di Sorrento was famous all over the Kingdom of Naples for its floury handicraft and the production of magnificent, fast watercrafts; even though its inhabitants were actually better specialized in the production of silk clothes and ecclesiastic paraments.

Piano di Sorrento is definitely a bustling town which harmoniously blends its sea-faring vocation with a strong rural identity.

Not to be missed

Villa Fondi. Composed by: the neoclassic villa De Sangro di Fondi; the park, with a marvellous, rich Mediterranean vegetation; the archaeological museum of Sorrento Peninsula “Georget Vallet” (info at +39 0818087078). The villa, known as an important national monument, has two floors, and is located onto an amazing sheer cliff above the sea, with a spectacular view of the gulf.

Colli di San Pietro or San Pietro Hills: the hill rising up behind the town is traversed by narrow roads flanked by high walls, enclosing centenary orange and lemon groves, plenty of typical floral varieties of the Mediterranean Scrub.

Marina di Cassano: famous for the sailing ships which opened, in fact, the first mercantile traffics of the Sorrento Peninsula.

Basilica of St Michele Arcangelo: built over the ruins of a pagan temple, it preserves some pictures dated back to XVI and XVII centuries. Dedicated to the Patron Saint “St Michele Arcangelo”, the basilica also exhibits four marble statues representing the angels attributed to sculptors from the Bernini school.
