Villa Azzurra B is an elegant and welcoming apartment that is part of a villa built sheer above the sea. It sleeps four people. From Villa Azzurra B you will enjoy a breathtaking view over Sorrento and of the bay of Naples. Villa Azzurra B is 40 square meters (430 square feet). It features a shared swimming pool, a wide shared terrace with a view of the sea, air conditioning (please read description below to check in which rooms the units are installed), winter heating and WI-FI Internet access.
You will be in the heart of Sorrento, where you will find restaurants, the shops, public transportation, the beach and the tourist port. You will find a number of restaurants, the stop for the SITA bus Amalfi - Sorrento line a few meters (feet) away and the closest beach at 200 meters (approximately 656 feet).
Villa Azzurra B is located on the first floor of an ancient villa. You will reach it from the main entrance of the building going up a stairway which consists of approximately eight steps. An elevator is available.
You will not need a car to stay at Villa Azzurra B. If you do have one, you will be able to park it on the premises, free of charge inside the entrance gate.

The Azzurra apartments are part of an an historical villa placed on a cliff that drops steeply down to the sea. The villa is located in the most ancient and elegant area of Sorrento, in the heart of the historical and tourist center.
The villa itself is an historical monument of Sorrento. It is an important piece of the landscape of Sorrento, for its elegance and beauty, and for its exceptional position on the volcanic cliff, centrally located between the tourist port and the beaches. It is not by chance that you will find the villa pictured in thousands of postcards.
While staying here, you will be living in a romantic piece of Sorrento's history.
The construction of the villa took place during the nineteenth century, a period during which rich intellectual travelers, composers and poets, traveled from the north of Europe to the south of Italy, discovering the beauty and enchantment of over two thousand years of history. As it happened, a rich German baron, Von Gunderrode, after having traveled around the whole world, chose this place as his residence.
He had several good reasons for choosing this spot, and it is for these same reasons that modern-day travelers are spellbound by this amazing villa. From the large and splendid terrace, placed directly above the sea, you will be able to admire the incomparable scenery of Sorrento and the tall cliffs that dive into the sea. A bit further in the distance, your sight will rest on the large arc of the Gulf of Naples, with the characteristic cone of Mount Vesuvius right in the middle of it. Closer by, you will be able to see other elegant historical mansions, which now are luxury hotels.
If you lean from the balustrade of the terrace, you will see the green-azure sea of Sorrento right below you, with its long, thin strips of beaches, colored by lounges and umbrellas. And there are many more things to delight your senses... the mild climate, the perfume of oranges and lemons.
The villa stands on top of ancient Roman walls, and it is a masterpiece of elegance and gracefulness, from an architectural point of view. On every level there are large terraces and tall windows, built to maximize your enjoyment of the sun, the sky and the sea of this fortunate land.
From the villa, walking along a pathway, you will be able to reach the sea and the beach facilities.
The Villa is just a few steps from the harbor of Sorrento, which can be reached along a pedestrian-only pathway. From the harbor you will be able to board the ferries and the hydrofoils that go to Capri, Ischia, Positano, Amalfi and Naples. The Circumvesuviana train station, which connects Sorrento to Pompeii and to the train station in Naples, is also a short walk from the villa, and so is the bus stop.
From Villa Azzurra you can walk to the most ancient and charming spots of Sorrento, such as the Cathedral and the Cloister of Saint Francis, the gardens, which extend themselves, terrace after terrace, towards the sea and the magnificent view of the Gulf of Naples, Procida and Mt. Vesuvius. Also, you will be able to stroll along Corso Italia, or along the charming and lively alleys of the historical center of Sorrento, to discover the many products made by local artisans.
It will be an unforgettable stay.
The cleaning is performed every two days, and linen and towels are changed twice a week. Daily cleaning and room service, as well as a barbecue and a wood-fired brick oven, are available on request.
Swimming Pool
The above-ground swimming pool is 2.7 meters (8.8 feet) large by 6.5 meter (21 feet) long, 1.2 meters (4 feet) deep. The swimming pool area is equipped with tables, chairs, deck chairs and sun loungers. From the swimming pool you will enjoy a thrilling view of the sea and of the bay of Naples. You will share the pool with the other guests staying at the complex. It is open from mid-May until the end of September.
Terrace
The terrace is 500 square meters (5380 square feet) large. It is partly shaded by retractable awnings. It is equipped with a table, chairs, deck chairs and sun loungers. Here you will also find a brickwork barbecue. From the terrace you will enjoy a breathtaking view over Sorrento, the bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. You will share the terrace with the other guests staying at the complex.
Living Room
The furnishings of the living room are simple and comfortable, and include some antique pieces. The furnishings include a divan that unfolds into a double bed. The room is equipped with an air conditioning/heating unit.
Kitchen
The kitchen is equipped with a four-burner gas cooker, an electric oven, a small refrigerator with freezer and an Italian-style coffee-maker. There is an age-old fireplace decorated with age-old majolica tiles. Here you will also find a washing machine. There is a table to seat four guests. From the kitchen a French door will take you to the terrace and the swimming pool with a broad view of Sorrento and of the Bay of Naples. The room has two windows overlooking the tree-lined road below. The kitchen is equipped with an air conditioning/heating unit.
Bedroom
You will be able to enter the bedroom from the corridor. It has a matrimonial bed (160 cm/62 inches, wider than a queen-size bed). In this room you will find a flat-screen television. The room has a window with a view of the sea, of the coastline and of the Bay of Naples. The bedroom is equipped with an air conditioning/heating unit.
Bathroom
The bathroom is tiled with lucid hand-made majolica tiles and equipped with a washbasin, a toilet, a fully enclosed shower and a hairdryer. You will be able to enter the bathroom from the kitchen.

This is a first floor apartment, with a splendid sea view and it has direct access to a terrace from the sitting room by way of a few steps. The apartment suitable for 4 people is roughly 40 square meters (440 square feet) with a double bedroom, a second bedroom with a double bed settee, a sitting room with a kitchen area and a toilet with shower. In the centre of the sitting room there is a fireplace. There are two beautiful arched glass doors on each side, which fills the room with light.
Air conditioning is only available in the bedroom with a double bed settee.
From both the balcony in the sitting room and the window from the bedroom you can enjoy an incomparable view of the sea and the town of Sorrento. The sitting room is furnished with a dining table, television and a long form covered in cushions. The kitchen has a cooker and a fridge. The decor is pleasing and elegant. The guests of this apartment have a private area of the terrace reserved for them but share the remaining part of the terrace and swimming pool with the guests of the other two apartments. It is easy to reach the beach and bathing establishments below on foot.

The Campania region
Campania region is the beginning of the 'mezzogiorno'. Translating as the 'midday' the phrase evokes the sun-baked south. And Campania - with its ancient Greek and Roman towns, rumbling volcanoes and glittering blue coastline, at times evokes Classical Greece as much as modern Italy. You could be a million miles from bureaucratic and businesslike Milan.
Throughout much of its history Campania has been at the centre of Western Civilisation's most significant entities. The area was colonised by Ancient Greeks and was within Magna Græcia, until the Roman Republic began to dominate. During the Roman era the area was highly respected as a place of culture by the emperors, where it balanced Greco-Roman culture. The area had many duchies and principalities during the Middle Ages, in the hands of the Byzantine Empire and some Lombards.
It was under the Normans that the smaller independent states were brought together as part of a sizeable European kingdom, known as the Kingdom of Sicily, before the mainland broke away to form the Kingdom of Naples. It was during this period that especially elements of Spanish, French and Aragonese culture touched Campania. Later the area became the central part of the Two Sicilies under the Bourbons, until the Italian unification of 1860 when it became part of the new state Italy.
The capital city of Campania is Naples. Campania is rich in culture, especially in regards to gastronomy, music, architecture, archaeological and ancient sites such as Pompeii, Herculaneum and Paestum. The name of Campania itself is derived from Latin, as the Romans knew the region as Campania felix, which translates into English as "fortunate countryside". The rich natural sights of Campania make it highly important in the tourism industry, especially along the Amalfi Coast, Cilento Coast, Mount Vesuvius and the island of Capri.
The Sorrento, Campania / Central Sorrento area
Sorrento is one of the best known resorts in Italy, situated on a tract of coastline of unrivalled beauty, on the northern slope of the Sorrentine Peninsula. This sheltered spot, surrounded by luxuriant hills where vines, olives and above all high quality citrus fruits are grown, was once the site of choice where the wealthy Romans used to build their villas, and it has been a highly prestigious retreat since 700. Sorrento has been nicknamed “La Gentile” because of the gentleness of its climate, the refinement of its streets and gardens and of the friendliness of its inhabitants.
Sorrento nestles on a tufaceous terrace, 50 meters high, which falls steeply down to a blue, crystalline sea. This peculiar geographical position gives it a special character. The city does not have a promenade, but looks down, like a balcony, over the port and two Marinas, with unexpectedly charming views. Access to the sea is gained mostly via stairs, passageways carved into the rock and lifts.
The origin of the name Sorrento – Surrentum – is poetically dated back to the Sirens who, legend has it, lived in the rocks of the gulf, from where they tried in vain to ensnare Ulysses with their deadly song. The city’s origin is very old: sited in an area that was inhabited in prehistoric times, Sorrento was probably founded by Greek settlers and then subjected to the dominion of the Sannites. In the third century B.C., the Romans who, in the first century B.C., established a Municipality there occupied it. In the early centuries of the Sorrento Empire, it became an important resort and abounded in splendid villas with their flourishing gardens and numerous temples. From 420 on it became a Bishopric. During the Middle Ages it was dominated by various powers; thereafter, its history was identified most often with that of the Reign of Naples. In 1558 it underwent the cruelest attack by the Saracens who sacked it. Following this episode, a wall and defense and watchtowers, placed on neighboring spurs, surrounded the city. In 1554 the poet Torquato Tasso, Sorrento’s most famous son, was born.
In the old part of Sorrento the Greek-Roman structure of the town can still be detected, with the parallel streets intersecting at right angles.
Today, at the heart of the city, stands Tasso Square where, besides the monument of the famous poet, is the statue of St. Antonio, patron saint of Sorrento. Corso Italia begins from the square; a lively, elegant street, with a wealth of shops and meeting place.
The Duomo, of medieval origin, was constructed in the fifteenth century; the beautiful door on the right side dates back to this period.
Very interesting is the Palazzo Verniero, with wonderful decorations of Arab-Hispanic designs on the window. One of the most typical monuments of Sorrento is the Sedile Dominova, where the nobles of the urban quarters would come together. It is a fifteenth century loggia, with two large rounded arches surmounted by a seventeenth century majolica cupola. The basilica of S. Antonio, which guards the sepulcher of the city’s patron saint, has an ancient portal from the eleventh century.
In the charming cloister of the church of St. Francesco, with interlaced arches in the Arab style, are held classical music concerts.
The Villa Comunale, with a wealth of majestic trees and flourishing flowerbeds, extends towards the sea with terrace from which one can enjoy a magnificent view of the Bay of Naples, from Procida to Vesuvius. Beside Vittoria square can be seen the remains of the temple of Venus. Of Roman origins, Sorrento still retains the southern gate, at the beginnings of via Tasso, as well as that at the Grand Marina.
The northern side of Sorrento is bordered by gorges, which fall steeply down to the sea. Eastwards lies the calm mirror of the Marina Piccola, protected by a long dock, which constitutes the port where the boats for Naples and Capri berth. The Marina Grande, a wide cove equipped with swimming facilities, is the city’s beach.
