Casa Agostino A
About the home
Casa Agostino A is a 80-square-meter (about 861 square feet) apartment which
sleeps six people. It is 30 meters (about 100 feet) away from the sea, and it
features balconies with a wide view of the sea and Sorrento. It is equipped with
air-conditioning, and it is located in the heart of Sorrento, 200 meters (about
656 feet) away from the beach.
There is a double bedroom, a twin bedroom, a bathroom with shower, a living-room
with a double divan bed and a kitchenette.
The place
Casa Agostino A is on the third and last floor of a beautiful nineteenth-century
red-brick building at sea level only a few feet away from the beach of Marina
Piccola.
You will be in the historical and tourist center of Sorrento. All around the
building you will see a lively atmosphere. There are several small shops, bars,
and restaurants by the sea with little tables outdoors which invite you to long
resting moments: while you take your cappuccino in the morning or enjoy your
spaghetti in the evening, you can feast your eyes and soul on the view of the
sea, Sorrento, and the Vesuvius far in the horizon, not mentioning all the
cheerful and friendly people you will see around …
The little port where ferries to Naples, Capri and all other tourist
destinations of the coast depart is a few feet away from Casa Agostino A. And
also a few feet away you will have the bus stop. Piazza Tasso can be reached on
foot or by bus, being only one bus stop away.
During your stay at Casa Agostino A you will have all the tourist activities
Sorrento has to offer quite at hand; therefore, a car is not really necessary.
The house
Casa Agostino A is located on the last floor of a building which has kept its
beautiful nineteenth-century structure intact. The building has no elevator. In
order to reach the apartment, you have to climb a 61-step staircase; a bit
tiring.
The building has not been restored for tourists. In fact, genuine families of
the place live in it. The entrance and the staircase of the building are not
well-kept or elegant. The place will definitely please you if you are looking
not for luxury but for a means of getting in touch with the real way of living
of the inhabitants of Sorrento.
The apartment is simple and comfortable. There is a double bedroom, a twin
bedroom, and a living-room with a kitchenette. In the living-room you will have
a double divan bed, a table with chairs, and a TV set. All the rooms have
balconies from which you will enjoy a beautiful view of the sea and the coast
even from the inside. The balconies will allow you only to lean to see the view,
not being possible to have to chairs where you could relax outside.
You will have all the essential appliances in the kitchenette: a two-burner
stove, a small electric oven, and a fridge with freezer. The bathroom is
equipped with a shower and a washing machine.

The Campania region
Campania region is the beginning of the 'mezzogiorno'. Translating as the 'midday' the phrase evokes the sun-baked south. And Campania - with its ancient Greek and Roman towns, rumbling volcanoes and glittering blue coastline, at times evokes Classical Greece as much as modern Italy. You could be a million miles from bureaucratic and businesslike Milan.
Throughout much of its history Campania has been at the centre of Western Civilisation's most significant entities. The area was colonised by Ancient Greeks and was within Magna Græcia, until the Roman Republic began to dominate. During the Roman era the area was highly respected as a place of culture by the emperors, where it balanced Greco-Roman culture. The area had many duchies and principalities during the Middle Ages, in the hands of the Byzantine Empire and some Lombards.
It was under the Normans that the smaller independent states were brought together as part of a sizeable European kingdom, known as the Kingdom of Sicily, before the mainland broke away to form the Kingdom of Naples. It was during this period that especially elements of Spanish, French and Aragonese culture touched Campania. Later the area became the central part of the Two Sicilies under the Bourbons, until the Italian unification of 1860 when it became part of the new state Italy.
The capital city of Campania is Naples. Campania is rich in culture, especially in regards to gastronomy, music, architecture, archaeological and ancient sites such as Pompeii, Herculaneum and Paestum. The name of Campania itself is derived from Latin, as the Romans knew the region as Campania felix, which translates into English as "fortunate countryside". The rich natural sights of Campania make it highly important in the tourism industry, especially along the Amalfi Coast, Cilento Coast, Mount Vesuvius and the island of Capri.
