Home description
Leaving the main road and the world behind you, a stone track of some 400 metres passes through a couple of gateways bringing you to the villa, where attractive lawned gardens with flowering shrubs, palm trees and banana trees, border the 8m x 4m pool. To one side of the pool is a covered terrace and from here a door leads into an open plan living room with a breakfast bar separating the well equipped kitchen complete with full cooker with ceramic hob, dishwasher, microwave and large fridge-freezer.
Beyond the kitchen is a very attractive dining area with a handsome dresser, and lovely old-fashioned open fireplace and sofa as well as a smart pine table and chairs. To the rear of the room a staircase leads up to the comfortably furnished sitting room. Here you will find two large sofas, a couple of easy chairs as well as a wood burning stove for cool country nights and numerous windows to make the most of the incredible sea views!

The Mallorca/Majorca region
Away from the island’s sophisticated capital Palma, a startling change takes place. Fields dotted with windmills turning lazily in the breeze give way to rolling countryside covered in olive and almond groves punctuated by vineyards and small, sun-bleached villages. Mediaeval monasteries and castles atop pine clad mountains look out over the azure sea that encircles the island’s 400 km of beautiful coastline, much surprisingly untouched by signs of mass tourism. With 6 Michelin starred restaurants, bodegas producing quality wines, way marked walking trails and cycle routes Mallorca has established itself amongst the most sophisticated destinations of the Med.
Son Serra de Marina area
Although a mere 7kms from the resort hotels and glorious sandy beaches strung between Alcudia and Can Picafort, the small, gentille town of Santa Margalida, is just far enough removed from the coast to remain off the beaten track as far as tourists are concerned. As a consequence the town has remained in a sleepy time warp, happily servicing the local farming community and really letting its hair down twice a year for its Saints Days. The first, on August 15th is the festival to the Virgin Mary heralded by fireworks followed by the Fiesta of La Beata on the first Sunday of September when all sorts of exciting mayhem takes place!
The old main square, with tables and chairs scattered beneath shady plane tress, is impressively spacious with the usual selection of tapas bars, as well as a genuine pizzeria and an upmarket coffee shop offering cakes, tartes and sugary ensaimadas. The town has banks, butchers, bakers and shops a plenty, as well as a small but well stocked supermarket handily situated on the road in from Cana Joana! Just out of town on the Ca’n Picafort road is an excellent restaurant in an old manor house, whilst the low key resort of Son Serra de Marina is no more than 10 minutes by car and has some of the best beaches in the area as well as a number of good seafood restaurants.
For more action, just over a 10 minute drive away is the resort of Can Picafort with a superb beach and plenty of family entertainment, as well as a huge selection of restaurants and cuisines!

Further details indoors: The villa’s three well-furnished bedrooms are located on the ground floor, off the corridor to the side of the living area. There are one double and two twin bedrooms, sharing a very smart, full bathroom, plus a separate shower room.
On the far side of the villa is a further covered terrace, accommodating an open-air kitchen with a gas cooker, plus a double sink, washing machine and a huge open fireplace. In the garden nearby is a purpose built barbecue and if you do a little hunting you’ll find fresh mint and parsley for marinades!
Other gifts from Mother Nature (pennies from heaven) include oranges and lemons from the grove adjoining the villa as well as fresh eggs from the owner’s chickens, kept in a small run hidden away amongst prickly pear trees to the side of the entrance gate. There is also a table tennis table usually situated in the shade of the covered terrace next to the pool.
Notes: There is a DVD player and a satellite TV in the sitting room which receives some English channels. In the gardens are two convenient outside showers. The owner’s father tends to the chickens and also a flock of sheep that graze from time to time in the adjoining orchards. For a few days in September when the almonds are harvested you may see the occasional farm worker. Finally, if you run out of sugar or have a more serious problem, you might be reassured to know that the owner’s sister, Francesca, has a villa on a separate plot of land some 50-100 metres away, but not in a position to encroach on your privacy.
The pool has a depth of 1m in the shallow end sloping to 1.85m at the deep end.
The cost of logs/central heating fuel is payable locally direct to the owner.

Guestbook
Just returned from the most amazing holiday. The villa in a really lovely place with beautiful views away from all the hussle and bussle. What a quaint town Santa Margalida is! Beach is fantastic at Son Serra de Marina (no water sports and no sunbeds) truly unspoilt. Would definitely recommend villa and location. Patterson family, Aug 2007
AMAZING VIEWS!!!!!!!!!!! A truly wonderful, relaxing holiday setting. Just far enough from the village for total privacy but close enough for amenities. We have a 1yr old and 8yr old - this place is perfect for them. The chickens eggs and oranges from the groves made a perfect addition to our breakfasts. Everything was thought of by the agents and owners, from hairdryer, towels, games to sewing and first aid kit, local info and much more. We will return very soon!!
