The Menorca region

Villas in Menorca are a great way to enjoy what many people consider to be the jewel of the Balearics. Menorca has more beaches than all the other Balearic islands put together, and most of the 200km coastline is made up of beautiful, clean sandy coves separated by rocky headlands. Much of the island's interior is lush and green with pine covered hills so whether your villa rental Menorca villa is on the coast or inland you can be sure of wonderful environment in which to enjoy your holiday.

A Solmar Villas Menorca holiday does not just have to be about lazing on the beach as there is a wealth of interesting places to discover. Mahon, the island capital, is a charming town with its local character and Georgian architecture and it has one of the biggest natural harbours in the world. Ciutadella, at the opposite end of the island, is equally as interesting and offers a complete contrast with its Moorish influenced architecture. During the past the island was inhabited by many civilizations and their legacy is over 500 fascinating prehistoric sites to be visited.

Son Parc area

Son Parc is a small resort on the north coast of Menorca, just 30km from the Capital, Mahon and the Airport. Most visitors choose Son Parc for the lovely Son Saura beach and newly extended golf course..

The beautiful blue flag beach is not large but easily copes with visitors in the summer and has ample parking. There are lifeguards and you can hire sun beds and parasols as well as pedaloes, canoes and windsurfing equipment. At the west end of the beach is a café with refreshments and ice creams etc. For families with small children the opposite end is ideal as the sea is very shallow for quite a way out.

The golf course is the only one in Menorca. Claiming to be championship quality it is ideal for beginners and experienced golfers. It has recently been extended to 18 holes and has been designed to be sympathetic to the local environment by leaving natural features such as rocks and planting in situe. Son Parc Golf is also famous for its resident peacocks!

In addition not the greens, the golf course offers a putting range, tennis court and club house restaurants.

The main commercial centre of Son Parc offers an excellent range of cuisine from traditional Spanish including fish restaurants through to Chinese and even an English Bar. There is also a selection of shops, a supermarket and gift shops. Just up the road is the port of Fornells with it’s array of fishing boats and famous for some of the most fabulous fish restaurants you will ever find, well worth a visit.

Please remember it is a monestry and therefore visitors will be required to ‘cover up’ you will not be allowed in without a top on or in a bikini top.

Ciutadella is the former capital of Menorca . The old Arab Mediterranean citadel walled in by the harbour defences and winding, narrow streets of stone between noble palaces. The beautiful ancient harbour with good bars and restaurants.
