The Western Cape region
The Western Cape is a truly stunning part of the world: whales along the coast, mountains and vineyards just inland. National parks full of the unique fynbos flora. The city of Cape Town, and the towns of Stellenbosch and Hermanus are all world famous tourist destinations.
Somerset West / Schapenberg Estate area
Somerset West is a pretty town right in the winelands. It is close to Franschoek and Stellenbosch: the heart of wine production in the cape, and within easy driving distance of hundreds of beautiful wine farms. It is also close to Cape Town (a 40 minute drive west to the Waterfront) and to Hermanus and the beginning of the Garden Route (a 40 minute drive east). There are numerous golf courses close by (Erinvale, Pearl Valley, etc). Somerset West is also a very child friendly town with many cafes and restaurants catering specifically for families.
Schapenberg Estate is a secure estate at the eastern end of the town built on the hillside on what was a fruit farm, it is easy to find and close to the main routes to Cape Town and to Hermanus. There are beaches close by at Strand and at Gordon's Bay, the latter very sheltered from the Cape winds.
How to get there
A 30 minute drive from Cape Town airport, and easy to find. Somerset West is on the N2 east of Cape Town, the house is up on the hillside at the east end of town with superb views over the whole of False Bay. Car hire is easy to organise from the airport.
