The Western Cape region
The season in the Western Cape begins in October and comes to a close at the end of May. In October, the climate is already temperate and the vegetation lush and in bloom. May is still warm around Cape Town: temperatures are above those in Central Europe and can be as high as the upper 20's.
Somerset West / Erinvale Golf Estate area
Erinvale Golf & Country Club is one of the most renowned and spectacular golf courses in South Africa. Situated at the foot of the Helderberg, the view to the Hottentots Holland Mountains and over the False Bay is stunning. Designed by Gary Player, Erinvale was host to the 1996 World Cup of Golf, and to the SAA Open in 2003. Other golf courses such as Strand, Somerset West, Stellenbosch and Spiers are just a short drive away.
The Helderberg Nature Reserve is just a few minutes away and can be acessed from the estate. It boasts well-kept hiking trails with magnificent views. The reserve is well known for its Cape Fynbos, extensive bird life and breathtaking views of False Bay. A hike to the top of the Helderberg takes approx. 2 1/2h.
The False Bay beaches, with their warmer, calmer waters, are 5km away.
A modern and ever-expanding shopping centre offers all the amenities required.
How to get there
Leave the airport on the airport approach road; turn left onto the N2 Highway. Look for the sign marked Somerset West. Approximately 25km from the airport, take the R44 Broadway Boulevard Exit. Turn left at the traffic lights. At the next traffic lights, turn right onto the Main Road. Drive straight past 3 sets of traffic lights. At the fourth set of traffic lights, turn left into Lourensford Road (if you drive past the VW/Audi dealer you have driven too far). Travel straight down Lourensford Road for approximately 4km past the Shell petrol station and past the perimeter fence of Erinvale Golf Club. Turn left into the golf club and pass the security gate.
