Home description

This romantic thatched home is supported by indigenous tree trunks and is African themed but with all the modern essentials and overlooks the Helderberg and Hottentot mountains which have their own trails.

The 450 acre estate has 6 farms; game park, stocked with wildebeest, zebra, eland, bontebok and springbok, protea farm, vineyards and 2 guest lodges, with access to wander or cycle the trails and swim in the main 1 km dam. With only 60 houses scattered throughout you are assured of privacy and peace yet only 15 minutes from Somerset west and excellent restaurants.

Erinvale Golf course is 15 minutes. Arabella is 45 mins and Stellenbosch Golf course only 35 as is the beautiful university town of Stellenbosch with excellent shopping.

Swim in the warmer water of popular Gordon's Bay or watch the kite surfing at Strand only 15 minutes or see the whales in season at Hermanus.

Play championship golf courses.Visit old colonial or ultra mod vineyards and taste delicious new world wines often with a gourmet restaurant attached.

Somerset West area

Activities are primarily outside in this climate and alongside those mentioned there are wine and cheese festivals. Regular craft markets The superb Kirstenbosch Gardens where you can lose yourself for a day. Walk or take the Cable Car up table Mountain or view the city from the open top double decker.

The Mother city has the world renowned Waterfront and great Markets, shops and restaurants. Capetonians love the good life and the beach and it is there in abundance.

Take a trip to a large Game park and see lion etc. Pretty French Franschoek with great shops and numerous eateries is 75 mins past Boschendal and historic Vergelegen with a picnic under the trees is on the doorstep.

How to get there

K.L.M. and Lufthansa usually offer the cheaper fares but you have to change in Amsterdam or Frankfurt. Brish Airways and South African Airways fly direct from Heathrow . There are other airlines that fly by their own hub e.g Emirates ,Qatar ,and more. Look out for offers on all but the general rule is that the earlier you book the cheaper in particular in high season.
You will need a car. All major car hire firms at the airport but advise to book. The cars are often quite new and there is a wide choice. Drive side is same as U.K. The roads are good clearly signed and wide often dual carriageway. We are 35 minutes from airport on dual carriage way signed to Somerset West . Simple clear instructions will be sent to you . From our security gate you will wind uphill past vineyards and scattered houses on a brick road until the last 50 metres on level dirt road to turn into Ulundi. No need for special car.

The downstairs is mostly open plan with 2 steps down to shower cum cloakroom and spacious twin bedded room with extra length beds.

There is ample storage in all rooms including bedrooms. The two double rooms are upstairs and have balconies. Both have bathrooms and the main bedroom is very large and with separate loo and shower. Downstairs windows are full length and open back completely to create indoor /outdoor feel.

Most of the furniture and artefacts including crockery and glass have been hand crafted locally to give a truly African safari lodge feel.

Further details outdoors:
Shaded dining area with table and stools for 8. Large shaded seating area with use of assorted deck chairs.

Paths to wander round lovely maintained garden with indigenous trees and shrubs. Use of single space in secure garage. Plenty of parking.

The pool has an electric safety cover which has on one occasion been walked upon by 3 year old and it took her weight long enough for rescue!

The main dam on the estate, 10 minutes walk, is swimmable and you may persuade someone to lend you a canoe.

In order to clean house in between guests I would appreciate to synchronise flight times as long distance flights either leave early a.m or in the evening and after a long flight you would appreciate an empty and clean house on arrival!

So please have possible times to hand on booking.
