The Western Cape region
Somerset West, Gordons Bay and Strand make up the Helderberg Basin. There is a combination of action packed Mountains, warm Blue Ocean and white sandy beaches, making it one of the most sought after holiday destinations in the world. Somerset West is 30 minutes drive from the centre of Cape Town, 20 minutes from the Cape Town International Airport and 15 minutes from the beautiful town of Stellenbosch.
Somerset West enjoys a Mediterranean type climate with hot dry Summers, and mild Winters making it a perfect winter sun destination. The best time of year to visit is from October to May.
There is the magnificent Table Mountain, a golfer's paradise, a mecca for surfers, declicious for food and wine connoisseurs and for active sports enthusiasts there is shark diving, paragliding and a host of other activities – pure bliss!
Somerset West / Erinvale Golf Estate area
Erinvale Golf & Country Club is absolutely fantastic, designed by Gary Player and situated at the foot of the Helderberg, with panoramic views of the Hottentots Holland Mountains and False Bay. Other golf courses such as Strand, Somerset West, Stellenbosch and Spiers are just a short drive away.

The Helderberg Nature Reserve is just a few minutes away and can be acessed from the estate. It boasts well-kept hiking trails with magnificent views. The reserve is well known for its Cape Fynbos, extensive bird life and breathtaking views of False Bay. A hike to the top of the Helderberg takes approx. 2 1/2h.

How to get there
Several major airlines fly direct to Cape Town international airport on a daily basis. Alternatively connecting flights from Durban & Johannesburg international take around 2 hours to Cape Town. Car hire is available at the Cape Town International airport. Suggest you book on line before leaving home.
By Car: Leave the airport on the airport approach road; turn left onto the N2 Highway. Look for the sign marked Somerset West. Approximately 25km from the airport, take the R44 Broadway Boulevard Exit. Turn left at the traffic lights. At the next traffic lights, turn right onto the Main Road. Drive straight past 3 sets of traffic lights. At the fourth set of traffic lights, turn left into Lourensford Road. Continue straight on Lourensford Road for approximately 4km, you will pass Vergelegen Wine Estate on your right hand side, before reaching Erinvale Golf Club. Turn left into the golf club and pass the security gate.
