Home description

5 Erin Oaks comprises of 3 en-suite bedrooms and comfortable living and dining areas, including two furnished patios to enable you to dine alfresco and fully enjoy the superb South African climate. The emphasis is on comfortable outdoor living in a superb setting. Golfers and Foodies will be in spoilt for choice! The Erinvale Championship Golf course (designed by Gary Player and host to 2 SAA Opens) is on site, and about 10 other top class courses are within 30min drive. Restaurants and wine-tasting, olive groves and picnic opportunities abound and you will need to return many times to try them all!
Excellent hiking trail through the indigenous fynbos on the adjoining Helderberg Nature Reserve is accessable directly from the Estate. (Picnic back-pack provided!) Good walks on the Estate.

The Western Cape region

Somerset West is situated at the foot of the Helderberg(Clear Mountain), nestled between the mountains and the spectacular False Bay coastline. Erinvale Estate is adjacent to the historic Vergelegen Estate, where you can experience cellar tours, fabulous dining and Summer picnics and open-air concerts. We are at the gateway to the very popular Wine Routes of Stellenbosch and Paarl, and 10 mins from the beautiful beach at the Strand.
Somerset West enjoys a Mediterranean type climate with hot dry Summers, moderated by the cool sea breeze, and mild Winters, where the temperatures are often in the low twenties. Most of the rainfull occurs from May to October, but there are often long stretches of perfect sunny weather, ideal for hiking, touring and golf.

Somerset West / Erinvale Golf Estate area

The Erinvale Golf Course is superb, with coastline views from the back nine that will threaten to distract you from your swing!! A driving range, excellent Pro Shop and tuition are avaibable, as well as equipment hire.
If you would like a change of scenery, try one of the other excellent courses in the area, such as De Zalze or Boschenmeer. After golf, how about some wine-tasting at one of the dozens of excellent estates in the area, most of which also offer very good restaurants. Franschoek is known locally as the Gourmet Capital of the Western Cape, and you MUST have lunch at one of our personal favourites, Bread and Wine, where homemade breads, home cured meats and local cheeses take centre stage. Excellent Olive Oils and Cheeses are produced in the area and can be sampled on many estates. The Goat Shed, on Fairview Estate is another of our favourites. If you've overindulged in all the wonderful food and wine, spend a day at the Spa at Arabella Western Cape Hotel, for a different type of pampering. (Voted one of the top 10 Spas worldwide). The adjoining Erinvale hotel also has a day spa and offers various treatments.
From September to November large numbers of Whales arrive in the waters off Hermanus (50min) to mate. The whale watching here is world famous, as are the wines from this area. Deep sea fishing charters can be aranged at nearby Gordons Bay.. Hiking in the Helderberg Nature Reserve (direct access from Erinvale) is very popular and a back-pack picnic hamper is provided for you to stock with local goodies. In Summer visit an open air concert at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens in Cape Town, or at the Spier Estate nearby.

How to get there

Several major airlines fly to Oliver Tambo airport in Johannesburg on a daily basis. Connecting flights to Cape Town take 2 hours and there are many to choose from. In Summer, Virgin Atlantic, among others, offer direct flights from London to Cape Town.
Car hire is available at the Cape Town International airport. Avis is our favourite. Suggest you book on line before leaving home.

Wireless High-speed internet access (reliable!!) is available at a nominal additional charge; your laptop needs
