Located in Britain's first private nature reserve, a small part of which has been developed for second homes, is this relaxing retreat. Cross a bridge over the Thames, through the wooden gates and you are in Mill Village on the Lower Mill Estate. The Stables, once home to the farm horses that worked the land, is located in a pretty courtyard accessed via a five bar gate. There are three cosy bedrooms, one with an en suite, a well equipped kitchen/ diner for long chats over a good meal, a light and airy living room with a lovely logburner for chilling out after a long walk, and door to the orchard. Have a leisurely meal or play ball games in the orchard, take a dip in the pool, play a game of tennis, hire a kayak from the shop, or go for a walk in the beautiful countryside surrounding the Estate. The choice is yours!
Two minute walk away is the small estate shop selling fresh bread, delicious Lattes and newspapers (seasonal hours). The Stables is on a 450 acre nature reserve which means wildlife on the doorstep. Seven lakes and three rivers have become a haven for fish, otters, European beavers and wintering fowl. A bird and wildlife lover's delight. A lovely old pub, serving good food with a pretty garden for al fresco dining in the summer and a roaring log fire in the winter months, is just a 10 minute stroll away. Easy access to a variety of water sports and fishing opportunities at the Cotswold Water Park. Ideally placed for touring the Cotswolds and the many picturesque towns and villages such as Bibury, Cirencester and Stow-on-the-Wold.

Explore the quintessentially English honey-coloured villages that punctuate the Cotswolds landscape - Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, to name but a few. Explore their pretty streets, brimming with delightful shops selling antiques, gifts and other quality goods, along with fine dining restaurants, traditional pubs and olde-worlde tea shops. There are some splendid towns and cities too such as Oxford, Bath and Cheltenham.
Must-see places include Westonbirt Arboreteum, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, Hidcote Manor and Gardens, Berkeley Castle and Malmesbury Abbey. Family-friendly options include Cotswold Farm Park, the 'Home of Rare Breed Conservation' and Cotswold Country Park, home to the UK's biggest inland beach, with water sports, fishing, toddlers' paddling and play area, adventure centre and lakeside walks and cycle paths.
Walk the Thames Path, enjoy a day at Cheltenham Races, watch a game of polo or perhaps a day of pampering at the thermal Roman baths in the city of Bath.
Or if leisure activites are your choice the Cotswold Water Park with over 140 lakes offers plenty of land and water based sporting activities from waterskiing and wakeboarding to angling and hiking or cycling around the lakes, rivers (including the Thames), Thames and Severn canal and three nature reserves.
The Cotswolds offers something for everyone from plentiful leisure activities to beautiful countryside, picturesque villages to good family entertainment, great food to watersports at the Costwold Water Park.
The exclusive Lower Mill Estate is located on The Cotswolds Water Park , 6 kms/ 4 miles from the historic town of Cirencester. The Water Park covers 40 sq miles with 140 lakes and offers a wide range of activities and facilities ranging from waterskiing, wakeboarding, sailing, kayaking and fishing to relaxing in some of the beautiful country pubs and restaurants. There are many cycle trails and beautiful walks including the Thames Path and the Thames and Severn canal. Also in the Water Park is the largest inland beach, paintballing, nature events and an aerial adventure centre. There is plenty to do for children and adults alike.
The Lower Mill Estate takes its name from the historic water mill found at the entrance, one of only two still working on the river Thames, which flows through the Estate.

"All round fantastic stay!!"
Firstly, Natalie the owner is lovely and very accommodating. The house is wonderful, beautifully decorated and most importantly spotless. The surrounding area is full of nice walks and the heated swimming pool and sauna was a very welcome treat especially in October! My friends and I will definitely return to the stables! (And thank-you for the complimentary welcome goodies!) 10/10 stay !

"Good and bad points"
Mileages on the directions are confusing, I thought my satnav was playing up, difficult to confuse 4 miles with 13 miles. Once arrived the cottage is very cute and quite well equipped (especially the … More
Thank you so much for calling the cottage cute and well equipped however I am sorry that there were some points that you did not like at The Stables. As you said in your mail "I still want to stress we had a great time and would definitely consider returning" I hope I can welcome you back with your families soon! In the meantime I would like to respond to the points mentioned in your review. The mileages are pretty accurate on the directions so I am not certain how you travelled 13 miles instead of four. There is WiFi service at the cottage however there was a fault and the WiFi connection was lost for your weekend stay. The service provider has now fixed the problem. With any broadband service you are reliant on the provider to maintain the service and in my experience it is not perfect all of the time and occasionally the service is disrupted. I did leave the cable I use for my laptops (three different makes) but it sounds like it wasn't suitable for your devices. The cottage is in a rural location which means the phone signal is not as strong as in built up areas. You have to use your phone by the windows to get a signal indoors. It is one of the quirks of countryside living but it sounds like it wasn't for you!
I do indicate on my website and on all my ads that one of the single beds is 5ft 6 inches / 1.7 m in length and recommend that the bed is suitable for children or small adults. I was disappointed to read that the mattress was problematic so I have had it replaced.

"Tastefully decorated, beautiful garden, excellent location"
We are a couple with three daughters aged 15, 13 and 9. We spent a week at the cottage and it was wonderful. Its a week since we left and we've been missing. Owner, Natalie, left us basic supplies including treats that make a pleasant welcome. All communication with Natalie was very pleasant and she had provided us with all our needs generously. The cottage is located in the heart of the Cotswolds, in an excellent location for those interested in tourist attractions. Also if you interested in staying in the cottage all day not get bored because there is plenty to do within walking distance. The house is warmly decorated. All fully equipped and outside there is a lovely garden. Bedrooms and showers are small but living room and kitchen are spacious and very pleasant. Highly recommended.
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. Much appreciated! If you come back to the UK, hopefully you might consider a return visit!!

"Fantastic cottage in a stunning location"
Myself and 5 friends stayed at the stables for a long weekend. The booking process and info provided from Natalie was effortless and told us everything we needed to know.
The accommodation itself was very well presented and a real home way from home. (The bottle of wine and chocolates awaiting our arrival were also a nice touch!)
The garden was huge and a lovely space to relax in and whilst the upstairs of the cottage wasnt huge it didn't matter to us as we weren't there to sit in our bedrooms. The location was idyllic and within walking distance of lots of lovely lakes and walks.
I would highly recommend the stables and I hope to go again in the future
(Word of warning though although nothing to do with the stables, take all provisions with you, the shop in site is extremely overpriced!!)
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. Come back soon!!

"Cotwolds cottage gem"
Thank you for a wonderful stay in the Cotswolds at the Stables. We really enjoyed our time there and the cottage was perfect for us. We appreciated all the thoughtful household items you provided for us, and it made us feel comfortable and welcome immediately to walk into the kitchen and see your lovely note, cake, tea, coffee, and even fresh milk in the refrigerator! The location is perfect with the orchard behind, the cafe, tennis court, trampoline and outdoor heated swimming pool practically next door. We were amazed to see people brave the chilly temps to go swimming, but the pool temperature was quite warm and my children really enjoyed it, especially with the pool toys in the activity chest.
The Lower Mills Estate is a wonderful place to base a trip to the Cotswolds. We love the surrounding nature and next time will bring wellies so we can venture out more on the footpaths and hopefully see some beavers! My husband brought his bicycle on the train and enjoyed riding through the sleepy villages for a few hours. The convenience of your location is wonderful -- Just 10 minutes taxi from Kemble train station, next to the cafe/shop, 10 minute walk to Baker's arms pub, 5-10 minute walk from renting bicycles, and the County water park. Your range of DVD's and books was nicely spread for different ages.
My children are already asking to return, and hopefully we'll bring my parents and mother-in-law with us. It was a perfect refreshing break in the middle of an intense school term. Thank you again for making the rental process go smoothly and for providing such a charming cottage for families. We will definitely recommend the Stables to our friends -- what a gem!

"Perfect for a long weekend get-away"
Loved our stay at the Lower Mill Estate and the Stables. Perfect for a long weekend get-away from London. Travelled with a 3 month old baby and extended family. Cottage was great, very well maintained and Nathalie had left some useful welcome gifts for us. Though one of the older properties on the Estate it comes with lots of character and easy access to the various facilities. Shop/Canoe rental/Tennis courts + heated outdoor pool are literally a stone's throw away. We were very lucky with the weather in mid September and could enjoy sitting in the courtyard / orchard. Would like to return next year spring / summer, probably not in the winter though.
