The Mallorca/Majorca region

Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands with 554 km of coastline. Mallorca's landscape is very varied, due to it's geological formation. The first thing which attracts your attention is the Tramuntana Mountain range, formed by a line of mountains running parallel to the north west coast, the highest of which is Puig Major. The mountains give way to a coastline of tiny villages, sand, pebble and rock beaches. Each in turn surrounded by the imposing mountain range. The mountains are the source of the island's fresh water which courses down to the islands growing regions where orange, clementine and lemon trees grow. There are also long hillside terraces side by side with the olives and sweet wine producing grapes of the island.




Soller area

Situated some 3 Km. inland, from its port, 'Port de Sóller', the town lies in a large, fertile, bowl-shaped valley. Sóller shares its valley with the village of Fornalutx and the hamlet of Biniaraix, the combined population is around 13,000, and the valley is famous for its orange groves and terraces of ancient olive trees.
Sóller and the port are about half an hour's drive from Palma Airport, and have good connections with railway, tram and bus services. The valley and its surrounding mountain range, the 'Serra de Tramuntana', is a favourite destination for people from all over the world, especially those who enjoy walking, nature, ecotourism, swimming or simply a peaceful rest away from the hustle and bustle of the better-known tourist traps


How to get there

Soller is approx 30/40 min drive from Palma International Airport, Mallorca. There are excellent links by train, Tram, bus and taxi/transfer.
