The Mallorca/Majorca region
Despite the belief that Mallorca is a summertime vacation destination, Soller sees many visitors throughout the year. With spectacular scenery including beautiful mountains falling into pretty green valleys and the wonderful coastline, the area has long been popular with walkers and cyclists alike.
In the winter, Puerto Soller offers an excellent base for walking and for exploring the island. In the summer, the port has long sandy beaches with clean and safe water for swimming, snorkelling and water sports (hire facilities available). If you don’t fancy getting wet there are also boats of all sizes to rent, from pedalos to yachts and motor-boats. Puerto Soller is very much a working harbour - fishing boats go out regularly and fresh fish can be bought at whole sale prices within 2 minutes walk of the apartment, whilst boat trips also run regularly to Sa Colobra and Cala Torrent.
30 minutes from Soller you can find a number of golf courses, water parks and all the amenities of the city of Palma, and the region suits many tastes: from energetic walkers to the artist or the family in search of a relaxing, safe and quiet beach holiday. The large variety of lovely shops, restaurants and bars, both provincial and international, mean that it’s a very easy place to relax in.
Without venturing too far afield you can also find the beautiful villages of Fornalutx, Biniaraix and Deia (see photo gallery).
Soller / Port of Soller area
Apart from the many quaint shops and restaurants around this area, from time to time you may wish to get out and about to explore different parts of the Island. Puerto Soller is on the Northwest of the island. It is an attractive working town with spectacular mountain scenery, set in a wide horseshoe bay. It can be reached either by tram (15 mins) or road (5 mins).
Just a 2 minute walk from the apartment you can catch the tram (which oringinally came from San Francisco in the 1930’s) to Soller town, a bustling market town that hosts many quiet cafes and a street market on a Tuesday and Saturday.
The beautiful church of San Bartolomeu is also worth a visit. From the port, just a minutes walk down the road, there are many boat trips which allow you to explore the many pretty beaches down the coast such as Sa Calobra, Cala Tuent and Torreis de Pareis (see photo gallery).
