Home description

A lovely scenic 2 miles to the base entrance of Snowshoe. Time flies with this short drive to slope side, in a truly adventurous way! The views on our road are the same views as you have on the lifts at the top of the mountain. Use that 4 wheel drive as it was meant to be, and arrive in the day light, and avoid blizzards and tons of ice, but when you are prepared this is really fun and drop your gang at the slopeside in 10 minutes via warm (4 wheel) then park and meet them.

Stone Fireplace, Floor to ceiling windows, large spacious rooms, wrap-around decks, custom kitchen, 2 luxury baths and 3 spacious bedrooms including master with jacuzzi tub for one. 1700 finished ft and 1000 unfinished in the basement, 2700 sq ft, inside, lots of windows, views and a great 3 acre lot for exploration. Jacuzzi is for only one, in the master bath.

The West Virginia region

4.5 hours from Washington DC, through a very mountainous area, this is a very snowey area that gets very commonly 4 to 5 inches of fresh snow fall nightly. this area had 24 inches over night in May and their very high amount of fresh snow (170 inches each year ) was the highest in the US one year and even higher than Denver as an example. If you want to ski in an area close to big cities, ie near VA, DC, MD and near to Pittsburg, NY and Philiy as an example, than this resort is a small version of the Garmish (VERY small version) but this is a top down resort with over 50 runs and some as long as 25min to the bottom through woods, not common on the east coast. Also, very nice to know that the only walmart is 45 minutes away, and Macdonalds 25 minutes, so this is how remote this resort, yet the setting takes your breath away, since you are not there to go to Walmart of Macdonald anyway, but to enjoy nature.

Snowshoe area

56+ slopes with top down Interwest resort voted best night life and alpine skiing in the mid east coast slopes. we feel like it is a very small european feel bavaria and we skiied in Germany a few years back, so, size wise, no comparison, but the long slopes through the woods are very nice and this ski resort is at 56 slopes and the next largest is 35 slopes as an example, and plenty to do for each level.

Expert golf course and mountainous, you can order lunch and you must use a cart since it is a mountainous course, and the area is the mountain biking capital of the US, Cass mountain for train ride, cranberry glades very beautiful and they close the pass in the winter so you can go snowshoeing, and there is not a sound to be heard. We loved to go fishing here too and the nature centre with the snow Owl and other birds that are native to the area, just incredible. we have about 25 deer that pass in front of our home every day. 1.5 hours from two country clubs, Green Briar in WV, and Homestead in VA

Our home is at the base at 3500 feet just at the base so we have great view of snowshoe one mountain over, This is at the intersection of route 219 and route 66 in case your maps do not bring it up. we are really in the clouds and weather, and just an amazing home to be with your family, regardless of the weather, but one year this area was voted the best place to watch the stars and sunset, this I know is true, from every view of this comfortable home.

How to get there

We are 4.5 hous from DC and Dulus airport might be closest but these are mostly mountain roads so please rent a 4 wheel drive with great tread in winter only. We drive our van all other seasons, leaves in fall, 3 to 4 inches fresh snow fall (highest on east coast and sometimes more then out west) we get the jet stream from the Great lakes and Canada so fresh snow nightly is a delight of the area.

Enjoy the stone fireplace on a cold nights even from the gourmet kitchen. The kitchen features custom cabinets and large cooktop, and incredible views, even for the chef. Great for entertaining. Stocked with quality pots/pans and place settings just as nice as the kitchen itself. Cooking for your family becomes part of the fun and the table opens for seating for 10, so just enjoy!. (please no more than 10 in this home (2 children in the mix please). Yes there is cable TV!!

3 Bedrooms: The three spacious bedrooms with luxury mattresses and large closets, nice views and warm hardwood floors. Luxury linens including sheets and towels are provided.

First Floor bedroom #1 : features two bedrooms one with a Queen bed, dresser and closet (great for privacy for two)

The second bedroom (slightly larger) has a Queen and single bed, large closets and plenty of drawer space for three. (beds for 3)

Hall bath with top quality brass fixtures, custom cabinets, marble and ceramic tile on the floor and a shower. The first floor guests share this bath.

Up the loft to the master suite (loft is great for doing some work at the desk or reading good night books to the kids.) This real surprise Master is spacious with a very large closet, a private bath with jacuzzi tub, Marble and ceramic tile, and top of the line brass fixures. Wonderful wood throughout. There is also a sliding glass door to a private deck facing the back.

This room has a luxury Queen and a luxury single bed with mattresses and linens on the bed when you arrive. This is great bed arrangement for families with younger kids since they often can go to sleep before you do and its almost like having that 4th bedroom.

There is a sleeper sofa in the LR which can sleep 2 additional guests.

Further details outdoors:
3 acre lot with abundant wildlife provides room for plenty of exploration. With neighbors on either side, not too remote, either. Catch the sunrise from one deck with coffee in hand, and the sun set from the other deck with a cocktail!

No groups where anyone is under the age of 27 and really mostly prefer extended families!! Max is 8 and with kids under 8 up to 10!!

We ALL really really enjoyed our summer stay at your Snowshoe home and were so very comfortable and relaxed. My mom wasn't sure about staying so high up on a ridge but when she entered your home, she ABSOLUTELY LOVED your tastefully decorated rooms and was very pleasantly surprised that it was just her style. She wants to come back for vacation every year and so do we! The spacious open main floor plan of kitchen, living, and dining rooms is a perfect backdrop to the gorgeous and jaw dropping views seen out the enormous front windows. I can imagine the winter view to be just as spectacular as the summer view and may make the winter trip one year. We loved the porch off the kitchen/dining room....a great place to have a cup of coffee in the morning, just taking in the valley view. I woke one morning at 6am to a view of the valley covered in misty fog....THAT was quite a scene! Breathless is definitely a well fit description and time passed peacefully as we sat on the porch each day (and evening!) enjoying our visit. As I looked out the kitchen window I saw deer in the neighbor's yard, a sweet picture of wildness to add to the morning.

10/22/07 Positive Our stay here exceeded out expectations. The view overlooking the valley below was absolutely incredible. The cabin was well appointed and had a very cozy feel. We woke each morning to a family of deer feeding near by which was an added bonus. I will most certainly consider staying here again on our next trip to the area. I must add that it was a pleasure working with the owner while making our reservations.

"Almost Heaven, West Virginia." You have the perfect name for the
place---Breathless Views. My whole family was awe struck when we
spotted it from the base of the mountain and the excitement increased
at a rapid rate as we steadily climbed up the dirt road. Words cannot
even come close to expressing what goes on in the soul as every waking
hour draws one to view God's creation at its finest. Without a doubt,
God has given my family precious moments not just with each other, but
to experience such views and know He is the Lord and Master of all.
The three crosses meant sooooo much. And the neighbors, Julie and
Cliff Weaver were like a special gift to us. They are a fine couple
and you are blessed to have them as neighbors.

On a final note, I have to say that after sharing my photos with the
women at work and seeing their surprise and shock at the beauty
(pictures can't really do it justice), I've been asked more than once
for your Web Site. Perhaps others will follow our foot-steps right to
your doorway.

09/22/06 Positive We have stayed at many cabins in many mountain locations and your cabin offered the absolute best views and accommodations of them all. Our family really enjoyed all that the Snowshoe area has to offer outdoors in the summertime. Our kids really enjoyed your books and games collection. We would like to return some year in the autumn and stay again at Breathless Views!
