The Southern Holland / North Brabant region

Eindhoven is one of the oldest cities in The Netherlands and has a very interesting history. It received city rights back in 1232. A lively cigar and textile industry developed along the Dommel River. Another centennial business started when Anton Philips in those difficult years of 1890 personally toured half of Europe to find customers who to sell the light bulbs to. Eindhoven has become 'The City of Light'.

It is the country’s fifth-largest city. However the economy of the Eindhoven region is the second largest in the Netherlands.
