The Island of Malta region
Malta is a fun holiday destination with a great mediterranean climate, sun sea and beaches but if your after a bit more it has a fascinating history over 8,000 years. The Knights of Malta ruled from 1530 for 275 years in this time they made their mark on Malta by Building Towns, palaces, churches and fortifications. Visit Valletta the capital and see Fort St Elmo and many historic buildings and places of interest. A trip to the south of the Island and you can see the Neopithic Temples of Tarxien which are believed by scientists to be one thousand years older than the pyramids of Giza in Egypt. There is so much to do and see the list is endless.
Sliema area
Sliema is an area where tourists and locals mix easily. Making shopping and eating out more interesting because you constantly meet the locals who you will find very friendly and helpful. Sliema is also just across the harbour from Valletta the capital city. There is a regular ferry service from Sliema to Valletta every day. During the summer months there are many festivals and fire work displays which are on in and around Sliema.
How to get there
Ryanair and British Airways fly to Malta from Ireland and UK on low cost frequent flights to the Island. Clickair from Barcelona, Alitalia from Rome and Air Malta at www.airmalta.com have many flights from UK and many EU Countries. Public transport by Bus is an easy and cheap way to get around the Island. Renting a car is also a good option with many internationally based car hire companies based on the Island. White Taxis are available outside the airport to bring you directly to the apartment which is aprox a 15 min drive. Pick ups from the airport can be arranged.
