Home description

This unique Mansion is located in the central road of Hora. The initial building consisted of 4 traditional stone houses which were connected to one by the previous owner and were given as a dowry to his daughter. Later the Town Hall of Skyros was accommodated in the ground floor and afterwards the Mansion remained abandoned for many years.

Two years ago it was totally renovated by a famous Greek architect and local contractors. The basic structure and the openings were kept but there also became enough interventions.

The first floor living room has a picturesque balcony and a spacious veranda with lounge seating for reading and relaxing with a cup of tea. Stairs from the veranda lead to a two level terrace with magnificent view of the village and sea, tastefully furnished for a relaxing atmosphere with great views.

The mansion is ideal for families or friends, with plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay.
It's ten minutes’ walk from the beach, with easy access to all amenities, local market, excellent restaurants and fish taverns.

The Sporades/Evia region

Evia is the second largest island in Greece, after Crete. Long and narrow, very close to the shores of Mainland Greece, separated from it by the Gulf of Evia and the famous Evripos Straits.

The Sporades islands - Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros - are across the eastern coast of Mainland Greece.

These four green magic islands have unique sandy beaches with fantastic sunsets, excellent food in waterfront taverns and rare village life. They are famous for their lobsters, octopus and prawns.

Climate: April and May are fine, warm months with temperatures ranging from 55 - 75 oF. June, July and August are the warmest months of the year with temperatures reaching as high as 95 oF. September and October are both warm with a clear atmosphere and temperatures up to 75 oF. In summer the northerly wind of the Aegean Sea, the Meltemi, gives the islands a briskness and clarity.

Skyros Island / Hora area

Skyros is the southernmost island of the Sporades in the Aegean Sea. Around the 2nd millennium BC and slightly later, the island was known as The Island of the Magnetes, later Pelasgia and Dolopia and later Skyros. It is the largest of the Sporades, and in 2003 about 3,000 people lived in the island.

The north part of it is covered by forest while the south is rocky. The island's capital is also called Skyros or, locally, Hora. The main port, on the west coast, is Linaria. The island has a castle (the kastro) that dates from the Venetian occupation (13th to 15th centuries), a Byzantine monastery (the Monastery of Saint George), the grave of English poet Rupert Brooke at Tris Boukes harbour, and the archaeological site of Palamari.

According to Greek mythology, Theseus died on Skyros. Neoptolemus, son of Achilles, was from Skyros, as told in the play of Sophocles, Philoctetes.
In 475 BC, Cimon defeated the Dolopians and conquered the entire island. The population was enslaved and replaced by colonists from Athens. From that date, it became a part of the Delian League, later to become the Athenian Empire. Cimon claimed to have found the remains of Theseus, and returned them to Athens.
In 340 BC the Macedonians took over the island and dominated it until 192 BC, when the king Philip and the Roman Republican forces restored it to Athens.

Skyros has many beaudiful beaches and is also famous for its own breed of Skyrian ponies.
