Home description
Quietly watch the sun rise, Skyros has the most striking sunrises in the world (as mentioned in the Guiness Book of Records)!
Facing the sea there are two adjoining terrases (in enfilade) surrounded by a rose garden. There are also two others; one linked to the dining room and another more secluded in the garden. The vegetable patch in the garden can also be used 24/7.
During the summer season, you will have the opportunity to pick and taste readily available organic vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, green beans, courgettes, cucumbers) that we plant annually in the vegetable garden. In addition there are fresh peaches, apricots and grapes available for your eating pleasure in the vinyard situated close to the villa. All for free!

The Sporades/Evia region
Skyros is an unspoiled, magical, ancient isle, about 100 miles north-east of Athens. Part of the archipelago called the Sporades, it is lying north-east of the peninsula of Evia, at a distance from the other islands of the group, Alonissos, Skiathos and Skopelos.
Sung about by Homer and full of ancient memories, the island's long history goes far beyond the reach of memory. Recent archaeological finds at Palamari, near Atsitsa, have uncovered a well-fortified village dating back to the Early Bronze Age (2,800 BC). Artefacts from the site are on display at the village's Archaeological Museum.
Achilles, the hero of the Trojan war, spent his early years on the island, and Athenian hero Theseus, the man who slew the dreaded Minotaur of Crete, died there. King Lycomedes' palace on top of the village hill was built in pre-Homerian times, rebuilt by the Byzantines and then again by the Venetians. The Byzantine monastery of Saint George, built on the ruins of an ancient temple, is still intact. So are many old traditions including the island's mesmerising goat festival which, rooted in Olympian Greece, draws visitors from all over the world.
Rupert Brooke, the English poet, is buried in the tranquil olive grove on the southern part of the island, that 'corner of a foreign field that is forever England'. The islanders have honoured Brooke by naming one of the village squares after him.
The capital of the island is called Skyros Town and is a lovely settlement full of whitewashed cubist houses, decorated with plates. Skyros also has a lot of unspoiled and wild beaches and a beautiful landscape.
Skyros Island area
Its is possible to ride world famous skyros ponies. To learn more about them visit this link: http://www.equiworld.net/uk/horsecare/breeds/skyrospony/
Diving, waterskiing and other watersports are also available.
The distance between the villa and the main village of « Chora » is 1.5km on foot.
A public bus circulates a few times a day between Molos (area in which the villa is located) and Chora. The closest bus stop is at a distance of 200m from the house. It can be found directly in front of the supermarket Molos.
Boat rental (kaiki) with driver (obligatory), car rental will cost approx. 30 euros per day (price given in March 2008). The island is big and there are many beaches and sites to visit. You can engage in activities such as windsurfing, jet-skiing and pedalo at the main beach closest to the house.
How to get there
Skyros can be acccessed from Athens via the main route (bus or taxi) or by taking the ferry which leaves from Kymi. The length of the journey is 1 hour 40 minutes on the ferry. The distance between the main port and the villa is about 13km.
Skyros also has an airport used by Olympic Airlines on Wednesdays and Saturdays from Athens and on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Saloniki. A charter leaving from Schiphol also lands once a week during the months of June to September. This information must be checked every year as the charter is not a standard form of transport.
There is also an areoclub which can transport you on demand (tel/fax : 00302222091711). The distance between the house and the airport is 10km.
