The Sporades/Evia region
Skopelos is the greenest island in Greece and Pefkias is its most peaceful and tranquil spot. The dark green pine-tree forest mixes with the deep blue sea and sky, offering an unrivalled natural Mediterranean beauty. You will find yourself in an idyllic land, in a small paradise at the very heart of Greece.
The island has some truly magnificent beaches where you can enjoy the fresh cool waters of the Aegean Sea, and relax on the sandy beaches.
In addition to its excellent beaches, the island is full of pine forests that make it ideal for walking and hiking. Because the island of Skopelos is defined by lush green forest and the blue of the sea, the International Organization of Biopolitics, on July 5th 1997, officially proclaimed it 'Green and Blue Island'. More than 50% of the island area is covered by a virgin forest of pine-trees. A forest which, when you visit Skopelos, will also need your love and care in order to maintain the natural beauty and ecological balance that has survived for nearly 4000 years.
Geographically the island of Skopelos is situated in the central-northwest Aegean, east of Pelion and north of Evia. It has 67km of rich rugged coastline, being 17km long and 8km wide. The population is approximately 5700 native Skopelitans and is the second largest island in the Northern Sporades (Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonnisos and Skyros).
Skopelos town is noted for its architectural heritage and it was honoured as a Traditional Settlement of Outstanding Beauty. This is the Greek equivalent of a site of Outstanding Architectural Inheritance. The island has more than 360 churches and chapels. The oldest existing ecclesiastical structure is the basilica of Agios Athanasios built in the 11th century and located in the Kastro area.
There are two large settlements: Hora (Skopelos Town) on the east coast; and the hill village of Glossa, close to Loutraki port on the west coast. Skopelos is famous for its enchanting view when you are entering the harbour, the 360 churches, the white painted houses and the narrow paved alleys - it is an unspoiled, traditional island known for its relaxed atmosphere.

"Spacious house with breathtaking view in peaceful surroundings"
It was a spacious well equipped house with lovely private outdoor areas and a fabulous sea view over Skopelos town.
Everything on the Island is within easy reach by car and there are several beautiful beaches very close by. There are also walking trails in the forests and charming villages with winding streets.
This is a great location for exploring the island or just hanging out on the terrace drinking in the views. There are very good restaurants in the town or in nearby villages, but the kitchen is well enough equipped to prepare good meals and the location so private that we stayed in and ate on the terrace several evenings during our stay.
I would love to stay there again and have recommended it to my parents and friends.
I'm so glad your enjoyed your stay at Villa Tranquil and I hope you return soon. Your point about the lack of wifi is noted and is being addressed in time for the 2014 holiday season.
