The Northern England / Yorkshire/Yorkshire Dales region
From heather-clad moors and bold limestone scars, to lively market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer? Surely, nowhere as much as in the Yorkshire Dales? Both a National Park and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the region’s stunning scenery includes rolling hay meadows, striking limestone formations, grand heather-laden moors and picture-postcard perfect villages. A paradise for walkers, the Yorkshire Dales attract enthusiasts from far and wide as the long distance Pennine Way and Coast-to-Coast routes pass through the area.
Cycling through the Dales is also popular – keen cyclists will enjoy the varied scenery and occasional ‘hilly’ sections of the 130 miles of Yorkshire Dales Cycleway, as it winds its way through Swaledale, Wensleydale and Coverdale. All of this, as well as exploring the imposing rock formations, echoing caves and potholes, will satisfy the most adventurous spirit, whilst Semer Water, the largest natural lake in Yorkshire, will keep any water-sport enthusiast happy. If you’re looking for more relaxing pursuits, there’s much more to see than magnificent scenery. Stone-built villages nestling in valley bottoms, picturesque towns with vibrant craft centres and markets, imposing castles, stunning gardens and fine architecture are all part of the Dales’ appeal.
Grassington, Wharfedale’s main town, boasts beautiful cobbled streets and quaint shops that take the visitor on a journey back in time, whilst the lively town of Hawes is home to the award winning Dales Countryside Museum, a fascinating range of shops and craft galleries and a sample or two of the famous ‘Wensleydale’ cheese at the Creamery is a treat not to be missed!
The Skipton / Hellifield area
Hellifield is a thriving village lying between Settle and Skipton at the edge of the glorious Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is a bustling community with a variety of local amenities including a historic railway station, pub, an acclaimed butcher’s shop and various local stores. The village itself is set within scenic countryside and is beside the largest outcrop of limestone in Britain - a dramatic backdrop of caves, cliffs, potholes and scars. The village of Hellifield developed as a significant agricultural centre, sited as it was, between the pastures of the Ribble Valley and the moorlands of the Dales. Later it became a railway centre and the celebrated Settle to Carlisle Railway travels through some of the most magnificent and uplifting scenery in the country. Malham Cove and Gordale Scar are nearby natural attractions, as are the charming Dales towns of Skipton and Malham. Hellifield is at the heart of outstanding walking country and is an excellent base for touring the Dales, the Lake District and the Forest of Bowland.

Guestbook for 2890 - Aspinall Cottage
We live in Australia and following the excellent reviews on your website, booked Aspinall Cottage in the Yorkshire Dales. It was fantastic, the owners are to be commended, this property could not have been better. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 week stay in this beautiful house. Lovely big house, excellent bathrooms, spotlessly clean. Highly recommended. The neighbours are wonderful and very helpful with local knowledge. Thank you Sykes.
