The County Cork region

The Carberrys -so called from Lord Carberry who owned most of South West Cork until the land reform- is one of the most picturesque and welcoming part of Ireland. You can rent a boat from Baltimore, 4 miles from the house, to enjoy Roring Water Bay's hundred islands or drive along the coast to Mizen Head the Southern most tip of ireland. You can take a lovely road to Bantry House, a 17th Century beautiful house is only 20 miles for Lough Ine or go further into the magnificient mountains.

Skibbereen

A few miles west of the house you can visit the picturesque Castletownsend, seat of Somerville and Ross, authors of the Irish RM and drive a little further to Beautiful Glandore. Buy a local map and you might like to find some of the prehistoric stone circles. This part of the world is full of surprises and will never disapoint you.

There are two markets in Skibbereen worth visiting, one on Friday at 12 noon for home produces and a general farm market on Saturday

"Beautiful setting beside the water"

The lodge is very cosy when the wind is howling outside
and the fire crackling inside. The view from the bay-window is wonderful and it's a great place
to sit and gaze out at the lake. There's a huge big fireplace in the living-room, a very handy kitchen and a cute spiral staircase leading up to bedrooms and bathroom on the first floor. The beds are comfortable and
the view from the twin room is great too. It's a beautiful area and great for walking, cycling, canoeing etcetera. Being at the end of the road, this lodge is nice and quiet.

"Idyllic location"

An excellent base for visiting south west Cork; the Gate Lodge is quaint and full of character, in very peaceful setting at the waters edge of Lough Ine, a lake of fascinating biodiversity. ideal for couples looking for a quiet getaway. A strenuous 45 minute walk to the top of a nearby hill, gave stunning panoramic views of the area and coastline.
