Home description

From the Lough Ine Gate Lodge you can enjoy many beautiful walks around this famous beauty spot or you can take one of the rowing boats from the shingle beach on the grounds and explore the Lough, the rapids, or go for a picnic on the small sandy beach of the island where you can see the remains of an O'Driscoll castle.

The County Cork region

The Carberrys -so called from Lord Carberry who owned most of South West Cork until the land reform- is one of the most picturesque and welcoming part of Ireland. You can rent a boat from Baltimore, 4 miles from the house, to enjoy Roring Water Bay's hundred islands or drive along the coast to Mizen Head the Southern most tip of ireland. You can take a lovely road to Bantry House, a 17th Century beautiful house is only 20 miles for Lough Ine or go further into the magnificient mountains.


Skibbereen area

A few miles west of the house you can visit the picturesque Castletownsend, seat of Somerville and Ross, authors of the Irish RM and drive a little further to Beautiful Glandore. Buy a local map and you might like to find some of the prehistoric stone circles. This part of the world is full of surprises and will never disapoint you.
There are two markets in Skibbereen worth visiting, one on Friday at 12 noon for home produces and a general farm market on Saturday


How to get there

You can fly either Ryanair or Aer Lingus to Cork where you can rent a car. The house is 85 Kms from the airport. You can also take the Swansea Cork ferry that sail overnight or during the day. Crossing is 8 hours.
Other ferries leave from Pembroke to Rosselaere. A 3 hours crossing. To drive from Rosselaere to Skibbereen it will take you 4 hours.

The main bedroom has a lovely view on the sea, the island and the fields, the beds can either be twin beds or made into a double bed. The bathroom has a bath with a stand-in shower, a WC and a basin.
Downstairs you can enjoy a log fire in the large fireplace.

You can walk through the woods where you will find a picnic table and bench, from where you can enjoy very romantic views of the sea. This spot is reserved for your house only.

The house will be ready for you with your beds made, at 2pm on the day of your arrival. You will be expected to leave the house at 10am on the day of your departure.
